I'm gone because I'm on Bnet

Oh, and I use wcreplays.com, since WC3 has such an active lively online community.

[edit] - you like dune?

Yes, yes I do. They are my favorite book series. Even though the new ones aren't anywhere close to being as brilliant as the originals.

I haven't read all the new ones, I own the original series though.

I'd like to read Bulterian Jihad and House Corrino, but I'm so discouraged by everyone's bashing them.

If you liked dune you might like "Homecoming" it's a series by Orson Scott Card. 5 books in it too, they're great. My second favorite fiction book series. Both have interesting internal dialogue.

re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

The House books were good, as a history. It was nice to see a lot of the holes filled in, but they end up being kind of dry compared to the original dune novels. The butlerian jihad books though, I think are quite excellent. I'm reading through the Battle of Corrino right now and I'm absolutely loving it. I don't know why it feels different, but in my opinion its definitely a lot better than the house books and a lot closer to the quality of the original dune.

I think I saw that series at the bookstore and was considering picking it up. Right now though, I'm in the middle of five different ones. Maybe when I polish a few off, I'll check it out.

re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

So if next book I buy: consider battle of corrino?

The thing is, when I buy books I'm really picky because I buy whole series. So if battle of corrino is one book in three, or more, then I'll only buy it if I know I'm getting the others. If the others suck but battle of corrino is good, then I prefer just reading them from a local library.

Well the Battle of Corrin is book 3 of the butlerian jihad series, so you're going to want to read The Butlerian Jihad and the Machine Crusade if you want to make any sense out of the Battle of Corrin.

Yeah, its corrin not corrino. My fault.

Hmmm... are the three worth buying?

Also *Dune book spoiler*

The last chapter in Chapterhouse: Dune, were the face dancers controlling everything from the beginning? Because if you re-read book 1 (Dune) in the appendices there's a lot of mention of a "higher being" playing a role greater than even the sisterhood. Especially in reference to Jessica & Paul...?

Yes the three are worth buying.

*Dune Spoiler*

There's never really anything about the face dancers so I would imagine that would be resolved in books seven and eight. As for another spoiler, I highly believe that the "unknown force" the honored matres are fleeing from is Omnius (the computer evermind from the butlerian Jihad). Near the beginning of the book he sends out copies of himself to the far reaches of the universe in the event that he gets destroyed. Its not explicit but I think that those copies or at least one of them, has rebuilt the forces of omnius and is now returning to the human empire.

re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

Ok, I wrote the last chapter from the 6th book but IE hung up >.< so I won't write it again. There are ***spoilers*** none-the-less for anyone who hasn't read the sixth book I suggest skipping my post as it might ruin a bit of the books.

Basically, the last chapter is of two Face Dancers (Marty and Daniel) talking to each other. They insinuate that they had picked which planet to make the next dune but the Atriedies gene goes "under the net" where the Face Dancers can't see them anymore. There's also reference to the Face Dancers having more powers than the Bene Gesserit.
They also kind of seem to have some kind of influence on the worlds. Marty says something like "You let them dissappear" several times.

In the appendices of the first book, there's a part on Jessica's getting a baby boy instead of girl without her really knowing why she did it (something like she knows she loved the duke, but she also did it out of a kind of intuition.) Anyways, the appendice kind of summarizes a lot of "behind the scences" and goes on about the Missionara protectiva or whatever it's called and how they kind of messed up about Paul and he wasn't what was intended and the sisterhood should have known.

Whatever, the end of the appendice concludes: In the face of these facts, one is led to the inescapable conclusion that the inefficient Bene Gesserit behaviour in this affair aws a product of an even higher plan of which they were completely unaware.

So I'm really curious, in light of the last chapter in the 6th book... Were the face dancers controlling everything from the beginning? Because I was under the impression they were created long after Paul's time????

And there is a seventh and eighth book?
Your spoiler has got me wanting to buy the books tomorrow =D

Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson are writing book seven and eight. Essentially its Frank Herbert's proposed book seven and conclusion of dune, split into two books. They're in the process of writing it now, so it should be out soon.

re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

Frank Herbert was supposed to write a book seven. He planned on it, that's why the ending's a cliffhanger. Except he died of cancer before he could write book seven. So it only seems necessary that they complete the series.

re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

I want to tell a story, about a forum where anyone was allowed to visit. Where tangents were allowed and discussed. Where anything in reference to the topic was allowed no matter how small the connection. There was a little boy who went to this forum. After it died out he tried to go to different forums. The first forum he went to had all sorts of people spamming the boards and it just wasn't fun. He left that forum and went to another one, which was good until the new moderator. This moderater was overly strict, and didn't allow very much in the way of tangents, even if they were on topic. The forum slowly became unfun. And now that boy realizes that it will never be the same.

The End.

Eh, there was a facedancer in Dune Messiah? And there were face dancers in the house books (but those are bit flawed in my opinion).
