But those weren't the kind of face dancers that could acquire thoughts, or whatever, were they?

The End.
Eh?

btw, I've read the Butlerian Jihad. I'll start the next one when things calm down at college.

And there's the possibility that face dancer have existed longer than that. A lot of what went on Tlulaxu was pretty secretive. And since face dancers are meant to infilitrate society anyways...

But I don't think they were controlling everything from the start.

And that story... yeah. Don't pay any attention to it.

They didn't exist as far back as the butlerian jihad though. And the 6th book kind of hints they controlled everything?

Well, I haven't finished the Battle of Corrin (I have 100 pages left) but one of the robots asks his Tlulaxu captive to make a new type of flowmetal that allows him to change shape and look like any other human being. If it this actually happens, it could mean that the face dancers are really robots, and that they could in fact be pulling the strings.

Hmm... interesting, I'm not sure if they ever say anything about face dancers being biological in the original 6 books. There is a lot of "no one knows much about them".

I finished. I was wrong. I think. They left a lot open at the end of the book but I'm sure that it'll all come into play in books seven and eight.

Speaking of the book though, the ending was crazy. You thought there would be a clear break between the atreides and harkonnen houses, but there isn't. I won't ruin it, since I think it one of the better twists in the new series (at least to me) but I definitely didn't see it coming. But the book was just awesome. Definitely worth reading.

No, they do not work.

And Trifisal Guardian, I finished the trilogy on Bulterian's Jihad. I have to admit, the break between harkonnen and atriedies was... well, it left me uneasy.

It's great when a book leaves you with conflicting feelings: It was easy to understand both Abdulurd (or whatever his name was) and the supreme commander, but the fact neither could understand the other was very dissapointing. It was also quite nice to see where the drift started, I was getting increasingly curious from the first book where harkonnen were portrayed as royal, honest, etc.

As was I. They have another trilogy or book planned about Paul's early life, so its possible they may elaborate more on that drift. I think the worst part about it is that the realization that the main reason all of this happened was the treachery of iblis ginjo and the sullying of the harkonnen name. Because without that, I'd imagine Abulurd (however the hell you spell his name) would've gotten off easier. Maybe. Vorian was kind of a d**k at the end there.

But it was sort of understandable he was being a strict dickhead.

It's also a pity because he really wanted to clean the tainted name of Harkonnen but he knew that no one would understand abdulurds actions, and so Xaviers name had to remain blackened.

I'm thinking of buying House Harkonnen, House Corrino and House Atriedies. Then I can have the whole collection.

re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

So this is kind of belated too (in theme with my latest thread) and has nothing to do with Dune, but does anybody remember when Starcraft was rated Mature right after its release date? And then it got changed to Teen shortly after.

Does anybody know if this was because blizzard changed the content to grab a Teen rating, or if the ESRB re-evaluated the game and decided it wasn't needing a mature rating? I think its interesting because most games now run the risk of getting re-rated to a more restricted rating (i.e. teen to mature) and to my knowledge starcraft has been the only game to get a changed rating less restrictive than the original.

It used to be more common. I remember there were several games back in ~95 that were getting less restricted ratings.

Now there's so much hype over games making teens do crap they shouldn't (whether to kill or to have sex, whatever it is) that there's stronger push to make things more mature.

I laughed out loud at the cashier when she asked to see my driver's lisense when I went to buy God of War... I was like:
"hahaha..." [pause, see she's not entertained]
"..uhh... you're serious?" [realize she is]
"... " [pulls out lisense]
