re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

Since the conversations in any threads didn't seem to be going tword this topic I just wanted to put it in. Naga is a word that means something to do with snakes and Orc comes from a word meaning hell which I think is kinda unfair if you think about it.

re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

Nagas were half-snake half-human creatures prominent in Hindu Mythology. Of course they don't look like any of the ones in Warcraft. They are sometimes shown as having multiple arms and lots of swords. There's an article about them here: http://www.pantheon.org/articles/n/nagas.html

I also found something really interesting about "orc". Turns out it was a sea monster. Article's here: http://www.pantheon.org/articles/o/orc.html

I then looked up orc in the dictionary and it referred me to grampus which is a dolphin-like family of animals. So it looks like orcs are killer whales.....

Orc is a mythological term, it isn't proper english or even american. what dictionary did you use? You'll find different definitions of orc depending on your source.

Naga isn't an english term either. It's also myth. There are the Naga Hills in eastern india I think.

scourge is like Blue gave it. It's also a term used for any device used to inflict pain or torture. Hence the Demon's scourge, i.e the undead are the scourge of the demons. Undead however, is another term from myth.

As is night elves, treants, ancients, trolls, grunts, cyclops, etc, etc.

You'll find them repeatedly in folklore and ancient lore stories. And again, this explains the similarities between WC3 and LOTR and whatever other books out there there are.

eww... You guys are getting all brainy. Umm... so talking about Naga, who wishes they were a playable race? I sure do, I mean just a couple of tweaks in strength and a few more buildings and voila. I was half hoping after I beat the game on hard I would unlock them.. but Blizzard usually doesn't do unlockables, but only if naga was an exception.....

Webster's Revised Unabridged

I think it's a scientific word. Base word of orca maybe? I don't know. The definition sent me to grampus, which is a family of animals similar to dolphins. Also I stated that nagas are hindu and the link is to a mythology site.

Here is the definition. \Orc\, n. [L. orca: cf. F. orque.] (Zo["o]l.) The grampus. [Written also ork and orch.]

Orc was also a sea monster in mythology. Again go to the link.

re: General Discussion ||| V. 1

Lylatian- The problem with having the Nagas being playable is the fact that they require water to build on. Since not all maps have water they would pretty limited in game play. Also since the maps that do have water usually don't have the large amounts of shallows that are required for a decent base. There of course is also the problem of not having as extensive tech tree as the other races. So if blizzard was to make them playable, they would have to add units, technologies, and buildings. Then there would have to be better balancing issues. Probably the most issues would be with the orcs since they never interact in the campaign. All in all, I think it would be a bit too much for a patch and too little for an expansion. Maybe in Warcraft 4....

Also on that note, people have suggested that they may compile the nagas, the dranei, and the blood elves into one race in Warcraft 4, since they all kind of ended up together at the end of Warcraft III. That also could be the route they take with the forsaken.

Well all that stuff you said I just simplified into three little words if you didn't notice them in my last post. "A. Little. Tweaking." Well, if you want to say A lot of tweaking I don't care, but you really don't need to restate the obvious.

Sorry. I was just trying to point out that it's really not feasible to make them playable and it would take more than just tweaking. I apologize for being redundant and stating the obvious.
