I've been looking at Brokeback's success in this last month, and I have to say with it's whole hype flow it could certainly exceed 100 mil, or at least be a big earner.

In case anyone was watching, Dead Man's Chest is doing very well. No, I mean VERY well. Like so great that people just threw money at them. In addition to breaking the top 35 domestic ever in 10 days, it is now the 11th most successful movie [USA], at just under 370 million gross. It should finish up nicely somewhere between Star Wars III [7th, with 380mil] and [6th, 403mil], and place equally high on the worldwide charts.

Snakes only made 6 million dollars on friday. Pirates broke 100 in... two days. So I guess that's a no. Snakes was more fun to say you liked anyways.

Do those records include DVD sales? If so then that is kind of *bleep*ed up since Dead Man's Chest is still in theaters.

Snakes is only going to make an estimated $15.25 million, which includes about $1.4 million from Thursday night screenings. That will be #1 for the weekend but below expectations. And it's only #1 because of the Thursday numbers, otherwise Talladega Nights would have been #1 again with $14.1 million. quoteOnly if they're bootlegged copies shot in Thailand and the like.

I guess it was the R-rating that was the killer in the end, even though the lead margin was pretty small. Good word of mouth should keep The Departed much more stable than The Grudge 2, though. I mean it practically has a cult of a following at this point.

--=[ Opening This Weekend ]=-- October 27, 2006 [Key]: Wide Release Limited Release
Focus Features, 100mins, PG-13 • Saw III Lions Gate Films, 107mins, R • Babel Paramount Vantage, 142mins, R • The Bridge IFC Distribution, 93mins, R • Climates Zeitgeist, 97mins, Unrated • Cocaine Cowboys Magnolia Pictures, 118mins, R • Conversations with God Magnolia Pictures, 109mins, PG • Death of a President Newmarket Films, 93mins, R • In Memory of My Father HP Releasing, 96mins, Unrated • Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing The Weinstein Company, 93mins, R -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- Figured with the idea of Lavitz's thread, trying to spark some life back into this thread and the fact I've been waiting years for Redemption to implement a 'poll' feature to the site, how about each week (usually Sunday/Monday) we update this thread with the upcoming theatrical releases and discuss how well each will do, which ones we will be checking out and just try to get an awareness out of what's coming out altogether. Then after the weekend is over, we update the box office results and continue the cycle. I'm anxiously anticipating SAW III, which I know will be #1 at the box office. Although it's the only 'big' release, it still has some tough competition such as The Prestige, The Departed and Open Season is still holding on strong in the Top 5. Anyone elses thoughts?

No arguments here, Saw III will clearly dominate the box office this weekend. Probably the most anticipated film in this second half of the year. Definitely gonna come up strong with big numbers.

Dude, Saw II alone made over $31M it's opening weekend. SAW III will easily make that number, if not more.
