Bay Announces Transformers 3
Director says next 'bot sequel due out in 2011.
by Jim Vejvoda

October 1, 2009 - Giant f*****g robots will storm back into theaters come summer 2011, so sayeth director Michael Bay.

The Transformers series director made the following announcement today at his official site: "Well its official: We have a great Transformers 3 story. The release date is now July 1st 2011. Not 2012. Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters."

Bay also jokingly addressed the public rift between himself and his leading lady. "P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture," the director blogged, adding a litany of physical side effects that can result from collaborating with him and urging her to contact her physician. He added that "Pain and Gain is right after shooting of Trans 3."

That would mean Bad Boys III is at least five years away, if it's still even in the works (at least with Bay involved). Ditto I Am Number Four.

Bay had been on the fence about returning for Transformers 3 in recent months (especially after Paramount announced the July 1, 2011 release date without checking his availability first), emphasizing his need for a break from the franchise after shooting two giant movies back-to-back. No rest for the weary, Mr. Bay.

More Megan Fox plz.

Oh hell no. I liked the previous two movies, but a third is totally unnecessary. I know they are totally going to listen to my opinion.

Great!! I haven't seen the second but I heard it was complete garbage. It's pointless sequels like these that are bringing the industry to a new low standard.

I won't be a monotone "OMG CASH COW" poster like others, so I guess I'll just say I hope they don't mess this up.

re: Transformers 3

Uh.. how is this even remotely in the same playing field as "cash cow", "unnecessary", "milking franchise" and any other play upon the word one could come up with? A trilogy was proposed before the first was even released. The third was announced before the second had even been released, we just weren't sure if it was coming in 2011 or if Bay would take a break and get Paramount to release it in 2012 so he could take a year off.

Besides Pixar's UP! and Star Trek, Revenge of the Fallen was one of the best films I saw this summer and with it's $800+ Million Worldwide box office intake, seems a lot of people will agree with that. Had a blast watching it at the midnight opening (on a kickass, sweet digital screen) and from all the other times I've seen it online, it never gets tiring. Some of the jokes do, as all jokes lose their appeal after the first viewing in any film, but damn, that battle at the end, and all the other action scenes never get old. That's what I go see a Transformer movie about, giant *bleep*ing robots blowing shit up. If you go to specifically for the story and to over-analyze every frame, you're going to see Transformers for all the wrong reasons. Perhaps though, due to the amount of criticism, maybe this time they'll be able to clean up the story a bit since there wont be a writers strike hindering the project like what happened to TF2. Even with a rushed script, I enjoyed the hell out of the sequel and can't wait to finally own it in my collection.

Whatever direction they go with this story, whether they bring in Unicron (hopefully not the more I think on it), or once again have to face off the impending threat from Megatron, I'll be there midnight opening.

Indeed. And between the release of the first and second films there had even been talk of expanding that proposed trilogy to five films in total.

I wasn't too impressed with two, but I'm not gonna lie and say I won't see it opening weekend.

Hopefully those neons don't make a return, they really ruined the movie for me.

I don't see why people jump on the "SEQUELS SUCK" bandwagon all the time. Revenge of the Fallen was a very entertaining movie if you didn't sit there to try and pick out every tiny flaw they put in. =/

I can't wait for a third one. More Megan Fox in leather please.

I honestly think that both films were about the same for me for impressions and disappointments.

I went in the theater, on opening day, having no expectations whatsoever. I watched the first film before I went to the theater too, so I could have a nice fresh viewing to the story. I was excited and I couldn't wait. Half way through the film I was impressed, but also disappointed. I was impressed because the movie had a lot of action and the CGI was great. But...they jokes man. Those corny 13 year old toilet humor jokes. That, was unnecessary. I have no clue what happened. It almost felt like I was watching one of those Date Movies, or Epic Movies that every other idiot loves. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy those jokes, I didn't mind the jokes at first, at all, but they crossed the line. I'm hoping, they don't do that with the third movie. Because if they do, I can see where this is going, and it's gonna disappoint. That is, if they do 5 movies.
