I thought we had a Watchmen's thread? Must have just been thinking of the SHH! updates or something.
I'll wait for further details on production to see exactly how bad they *bleep* this up before I comment. -_-

"Who Watches the Watchmen?"
This one had better be good. My only question is how much more of Alan Moore's comic book work is going to be adapted into films? From Hell, Constantine, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen came from him.

Not a good track record.
But this is a *bleep*ing classic. Nothing less. Watchmen was *bleep*ing amazing. This movie has exceptionally high standards to reach

Paramount has dropped Watchmen...
quote newsarama.com
WATCHMEN DEAD @ PARAMOUNT According to Variety, Paramount has put the kibosh on the production of a film adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen. According to the trade, the movie version of the best-selling and critically acclaimed comic went under the critical microscope after Gail Berman replaced former studio head Donald De Line in March (a change which De Line learned of while in London, discussing possible cuts to the Watchmen budget).
Officially, the project is now in “turnaround,” meaning that Producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin were taking the project, with its director Paul (The Bourne Supremacy) Greengrass to other studios to drum up interest. If successful, the next studio will be the third home for the project, as it was at Universal before moving to Paramount. Greengrass had been eyeing a summer start to production.
I think I'd just as soon not see this one made as it most likely wouldn't live up to the comics.

[ Bit of an update... (long overdue) ]:
• In 2004, Paramount Pictures, which still held the film option rights for Watchmen, hired director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy) to tackle on the task of condensing the 12-part story into a 2 1/2 hour movie. After seven months of development and continuing clashes with the studio over the estimated budget of USD$150 million, Greengrass decided to quit the project and move ahead with the filming of the September 11 drama United 93 (2006).
Viacom, the parent company of Paramount Pictures, opted not only for a corporate reshuffle but also for the overhaul of overly expensive projects being developed in-house. As a consequence, the Watchmen film rights were sold to Warner Bros. Studios, much to the satisfaction of DC Comics who originally published the graphic novel; both companies belong to the same media conglomerate, Time Warner.
• Warner Bros. confirmed Zach Snyder, the man who brought us that great remake of George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" to the big-screen in 2004 would now direct the project. And did I mention he was also the director of that masterpiece, oh... 300?
• Film is scheduled for a 2008 release. Not much else to say on other than it's currently in pre-production. However, Snyder released an R-rated trailer for 300 on Youtube (view here!) and included a sweet easter egg 1 minute and 52 seconds into the clip - your first look at WATCHMEN!
It's clearly test-image of Rorschach. Click the link to view it at the 3:38 marker. Or just look below for a high-res version courtesy of AICN who confirmed the image not to be a fan-made insertion.

I hope it's a test image. It looks OK, but just OK...
Anyways this was pretty much the best graphic novel ever, so I spose I'll go see this unless it becomes obvious they'll be ruining it. I mean there's no way it could top the print version because all of those interludes which can't be replaced on the more fast-tracked representation in film. 2008's a whole lot closer than it was once though

quoteWith director Zack Snyder's big-screen adaptation of the graphic novel classic Watchmen poised to finally go before cameras later this summer, casting rumors should be expected to be coming fast and furious over the next few months.
Although Watchmen is an ensemble piece, the key role in the story is arguably that of the masked vigilante Rorschach. A slew of actors have been linked to the part over the project's many years in development, from Daniel Craig to Simon Pegg.
Now Comics2Film.com has a new name to add to the mix: Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children). Haley, a former child star who appeared in the Bad News Bears films, made a comeback last year with roles in two high-profile dramas, Little Children and All the King's Men.
Haley co-starred in King's Men opposite Jude Law, a comic book fan who sports a Rorschach tattoo in real life and has long coveted the role of Ozymandias in Watchmen.
Haley also starred with Tom Cruise in Losin' It way back in the early '80s. Snyder recently revealed that Cruise has also eyed the role of Ozymandias but that he won't likely end up doing the film.
All this Watchmen buzz remains mere rumor at the moment, especially since Haley's dance card is filling up fast. The Hollywood Reporter says the comeback kid is set to co-star in three upcoming films: Will Ferrell's basketball comedy Semi-Pro, Winged Creatures (opposite Kate Beckinsale and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker) and the indie jazzman pic Bolden!. Theres also a video intereview with Snyder you can view here in which he discusses what he can about Watchmen, hopefully we'll be hereing about more casting news soon.

Sorry if this is old news, but has anyone heard that Keanu is the number one choice for Dr. Manhattan right now? I also read that the main guy from 300 is Snyder's number one choice for the Comedian

Jesus god, please tell me that's a joke? Gerard Butler I can see, but Keanu as Dr Manhattan? Think it's a big mistake making this into a movie to be honest, it would have made a fantastic 12 or 24 part series for HBO or someone, reducing it to 2 1/2 hours, meh.

eh Reeves could make it work. He was great in A Scanner Darkly, Point Break, and of course Bill and Ted's Excelent Adventure, but everything else was iffy...With Rorschach it's more about the voice anyway
With CGI today any actor can play anyone in the Watchmen
