re: Is it worth it?

Good, I got in here first! XD

If you forget the loading times, and the bad camera angles in some instances, I would definetely recommend this game. It is a great title that really got under rated.

The characters all develop individually and as a group which is a great thing to see, and the storyline - if linear - is great to the point that I have played to. I'm about 12 hours in and there has been a few plot twists that I hadn't expected.

I say go for it, and you will see. I didn't regret buying it, so I don't think you will, either.

re: Is it worth it?

^^ well I'm glad you got here first too.

But yeah I might as well give it a try....one of my all-time faves is a "under-rated" game too... and I love seeing characters grow and develope during games. Personally I think that's what most other games lack. Going on a huge journey to "save the world" or whatnot has to have SOME kind of major affect on your attitude and everything.

But what's the battle system like? I'm really picky when it comes to battle system. Is it just a basic ATB? ...or is it a real-time?

...and are mostly all the outfits outrageously skimpy? ....not that I'd mind. XD I looked at a couple screens and they weren't bad.

re: Is it worth it?

I haven't really noticed anything about costumes, though one male has no shirt, the other has his shirt opened and the girls all seem to have big busts for some strange reason. Other than that, there isn't really a problem.

The battle system is kind of like a mix between Shadow Hearts and Legend of Dragoon which requires button pressing when the Leadership Gauge is to a certain point. If you miss, then you don't get to attack for that turn.

I like the system, it's refreshing. Your characters draw energy for their attacks from the Chi surrounding the battle field, which is the energy that makes up the majority of existance of beings in the world. If there isn't enough Chi for a particular attack, then you won't be able to use it. Thus it's essential to have a well balanced party that can utelise majority of the Chi without being hindered by environments that lack in some of them. There is a total of eight Chi types.

Honestly? Yeah. But it's easy to get tired of it quickly. The story, characters, and designs are absolute top notch. The graphics and fighting system are... good. Then there's the voice acting and load times. Terrible.

The voice acting isn't all that bad. A lot of people say that about games, and the only game I have ever found to have terrible voice acting is Resident Evil, the original. Oh! And Star Ocean: Til the End of Time had some bad voice acting, too!

Star Ocean wasn't that bad. Not compared to Stella Deus. >_< I wish you could just turn the voices off in that one... sometimes the actors don't even speak into the microphone properly, so there's sudden drop-offs in volume.

re: Is it worth it?

Star Ocen voices weren't bad in battles.... But the voices are bad compared to this game Batan Kaitos for GCN. T_T imagine the opening voice of SO2 about 25 times worse.

But anyway...how many playable characters are there?

(...awww!! I remember the game Threads of Fate. XD Mint was kick ass. >:]

Threads of Fate? Don't you mean Tales of Phantasia?

Anyway all up I am not sure on how many playable people there are but so far, from what I can gauge, I think there is eight to ten. So there should be enough variety there for you. XD

No, he means Threads of Fate. I guarantee it. Mint's the main character (one of them).

In my opinion, Magna Carta is a good game, but I still prefer the better FF's over it (better as in... not X-2). It has a unique battle-system, and the Legend of Dragoon touch to it is great (seeing as LOD is probably one of the greatest underrated games ever.)

... It was pretty damn bad, though. And RE1's voice acting is bad, but like... cheesy-classic-bad. Like Evil Dead, or certain zombie movies.
Homey, I see a lot of games with bad voice acting. Magna Carta is definitely one of them.

And yes, my avatar is Rue from Threads of Fate (BEST SQUARESOFT GAME EVER!)

Plus, I suggest you get this game only if you have a lot of free time. Even regular battles can take quite an amount of time to get through.

re: Is it worth it?

I'm about 9 or 10 hours into it. So far I like it alot. I have yet to master the battle system, but I am getting better with it. Also struggling a bit with Leadership, but with the Talismens I think I am going to be able to raise my charisma enough.
