Steinbeck is always good. You should check out East of Eden. It's one of his best. Since you're a fanboy, I'm sure you've already read it, but still. Sixteen and hour isn't bad at all. Especially as a high school student. Haha
Yeah, East of Eden was amazing, definitely my favorite of his books. I recently finished Tortilla Flat, & have also read Of Mice & Men, The Winter of Our Discontent, & Cannery Row. The Grapes of Wrath waits to be read, along with Studs Lonnigan & Shogun - Whose authors I don't remember off the top of my head. As for the giving lessons, it'll definitely be nice. We decided it'd be twice a week over the summer, which will definitely be enough to fund most of my food-based expenses haha.

GM: I've never read the Pearl, although Of Mice & Men is a pretty tragic tale. The best works are never happy though - Shakespeare is an excellent example. Nearly every character is jailed or dead.

quote
Also, you've never seen Nino die on that level...? How?
& nope, Nino only comes into contact with that one monk who she kills. Then no one else bothers her after that.

As for the AP Tests, I've been tempted to do stuff like that, but wanted to save the arm strength for doing work. My essays are ridiculous. I wrote 14 pages for my 3 World History essays, 11 for US, & 9 for English Language. It's quite painful. >_>

Grapes of Wrath is pretty good. Long, though, and not as good as East of Eden.

Also, I've had Nino killed a few times on that level.

From my understanding it's immensely depressing too. I believe some schools banned it when it first came out actually.

Also, my dad recently showed me this cool musician, Sam Beam, who goes by 'Iron & Wine'. All of his music is extremely relaxing acoustic guitar with poetic lyrics.

Boy With a Coin
Lion's Mane

Well, they banned it because it was supposedly communist. I can see where they got that, but still.

We all know censorship is bad, mmkay. Haha. I like the guitar melody on Boy with a Coin. It's really chilled out. Very nice. I may get some of this guy's stuff. It's good for my current work-free and bored state.

I've heard a synopsis on Grapes of Wrath. I never want to read it. The things that happen sound terrible. D:

Oh hay, I've never noticed Mastix's mod tag before.

Of Mice and Men was the most depressing thing I had to read for school.

Then I had to read some creepy pedo incest play. =\

Just wait until you read Lolita. Then you get creeped out.

I've managed to avoid being creeped out by school reading.

Though my high school banned Beloved because of cow sex. True story.

Yeah, he writes some pretty nice guitar melodies. It's unbelievable to me that he can sing while playing such a complicated piece - I can't even strum chords to a different rhythm of vocals xD

& congratulations on the moderation job by the way. The forum you moderate suits you, for sure.

Sounds nice, just the kind of material schools should be exposing their students too. Considering the average teenager probably reads close to nothing *at least of literary merit) outside of school, they should at least try to read something more reputable than "creepy pedo incest plays". >_>

It's crazy to think stuff like that actually went on. Our society is so sheltered now, we have such little understanding of hardships people in the past had to face. Even so, nature's been trying to do away with us forever, nearly everyone has some sort of hereditary disease or something. Since Darwinism doesn't exist in human society, many generations have been formed from lesser gene pools, which is why so many people have vision problems, allergies, etc. Humans are smart enough to do close to anything & mend any problem so we can get by with defects that other, unintelligent animals can't. It makes you wonder if humans will ever be beaten by nature & disease. We're essentially just stagnating nature's progression.

Yeah, I kind of felt like going on a bit of a rant there.

re: General On Topic Discussion: The Resurrection Continues

Lol, I remember that Ranger. My school couldn't stop talking about that. Highly amusing.

I'm not as big a fan of Lion's Mane, I have to say. I'll look into his other stuff though. It seems good. As for the mod stuff, yeah, I know it does tomato, haha. I'm well aware of my anime nerdiness. XD

Well hey, Lolita is creepy pedo book to the max, doesn't make it bad literature. Nabokov is a fantastic author. This creepy pedo incest book could be good.

It was especially amusing in that I believe that was the year my principal ran for State Senate.

17% of the vote. That was great stuff.

Good Job. I sorta wish you had that tag instead of EtS back in the FE8 forum a year or two ago. It was like. "O hai, I'm flourishing for 2 years now and EtS comes to mod me. Screw this!" *Dies within the week* >_>

Lol, I remember applying for that position. And the FE8 forum was rarely totally healthy, to be perfectly honest.

re: General On Topic Discussion: The Resurrection Continues

I remember applying for FE10, and got rejected over Mana.

... That never really worked out. =\

(The creepy pedo incest book was a tiny little playscript, and all I can remember about it was that the main dude wanted to screw his wife's niece/his adopted daughter and couldn't admit it to anyone, but the niece wanted to marry one of her aunt's cousins.

I hated that thing.)
