Durandel Shines Again

Dagoberto young son of old king Childerico
gets bored of writing lessons in castle
of stone that imprisons his will to explore
so sneaking away while Magus Maritano writes
magic letters to illustrate casting spells
he darts quick into swirling forest mist.

Laughing as he walks alone on mountain path
in Ardenistra forest Dagoberto grabs stick
long and straight to swing as he strides
then whistles merry tune he learned at feast
from Bardino who strums his ringing harp
pleased to roam free outside castle walls
filled with ancient men babbling about rules.

Lion sitting on giant stone by ice river
roars startling him out of his reverie
so Dagoberto stops and stares in its eyes

just as lion transforms into a tall woman

and bows to woman in obedience to her word.

Transforming into lion woman lopes slow
and regal into swirling mist and disappears
so Dagoberto stands on stone by ice river

then practices thrusting and striking down
and swinging and stabbing and twirling fast
over his head growing more expert each day.

One fine summer day after practicing alone

Unleashing Durandel with flame of justice

Dagoberto whacks head off invading king
that rolls at his head with staring eyes
so he clutches hair and holds head high
shouting at invaders who turn and flee fast
terrified of brave warrior with flame sword.

Bells in towers ring victory as people
stream from castle cheering young warrior
who strides with pride before Magus Maritano
then kneels holding sword blade in wet soil
and bowing his head he addresses his master
forgive me for doubting force of your rules
for my generation never experienced invasion.

Maritano bids boy rise before face of his clan
then places helm crown with golden ring
on his head and proclaims behold Dagoberto
defender of Franks and slayer of demons
so thousand warriors and women raise arms
cheering determination of their noble king.

Striding alone in forest to river stone
Dagoberto is startled by thundering flash
then mist swirls parting to reveal lion
that transforms into woman with red hair
who holds out hands asking give me sword
named Durandel for you fulfilled your duty
protecting our nation from brutal war.

Since our nation is safe from new attack
release Durandel Sword of Justice and Truth
to my hands so I may keep it safe in Temple
of War where I may close and lock its doors
for thanks to will of your choice and love
your nation will be free from attack for years.

When enemies of Franks and Merovingian Crown
return with new generation of evil killers
I will again place sword in hand of defender
who will battle injustice of torturing killers
and free human tribes from brutal domination
so all men and women may live together free.

I believe a lot the names of the Heroes of the Scouring and their weapons are names taken from a French poem, 'The Song of Roland'. Here's the Wiki page; look under French Mythology

I read about that once. I'm gonna look up Naglfar in a while.

I noticed the Mythology names in Fire Emblem awhile ago, when my ninth grade English teacher started going over Greek mythology with us. Now, two years later, I'm hearing alot of familiar words in my world cultures class, during our Roman lessons too. . .

As a side note, alot of games use ancient greek and roman words. Like starcraft, for example. The protoss super unit known as the Archon takes it's name from a government official in ancient Greece.

EDIT: Oh! I almost forgot. . .remember Adhulma, from FE:SS? The S rank sword? Well, in old England, there was a legend about an ice tome called Adhulma. And of course, we all have heard of the legendary sword Excalibur before. . .

Where in England? I must see this tome.

I dunno if it was ever given an exact place. I think it was just something some writer put in one of his stories, like King Arthur's magical blade. I'd need to look it up again to get some details.
