Please make seperate posts for articles, to keep it somewhat organized:

May 16, 2003 - Torus Games may be best known for GBA titles, but their teams have been toiling away on a console engine that puts all the bells and whistles we're seeing in the big-name engines (and, strangely, are rarely seeing on console games) for a new game to be published by BAM. Ice-Nine started as a game version of the movie The Recruit, and while the final game has gone rogue from the original concept to have a wholly different storyline, character set and universe unrelated to the movie, aspects of the film that inspired the game are still in there to provide an captivating story and some even more intriguing gameplay concepts.
Hints of the movie plot can still be heard echoing in Ice-Nine's story, which should pull a lot of replay value out of this shadowy title. From the game's very first mission, as your training mission suddenly becomes a real proving ground, the plot will twist and turn beyond expectations. But while scripted events will leave you reeling, it will be the events you plot out for yourself that will really send the story in all directions -- depending on choices you make in the game, different paths will branch off for new stages and new ways to play given levels. Your shadowy past will be exploited by a mysterious man with a cigar, so if you wish to know more about the mysteries of your life, you will have to trust the man and go against your better judgment or ethics. You'll never know who to trust, and with the SOCOM headset (utilized mainly for the ear-piece, though some voice recognition will be included) being used to insert all kinds of cross-traffic, possibly mistaken transmissions and mixed signals, your mind may crack before you ever unravel the tangle of this mission.

What Torus has been most proud of in this game is its next-gen physics feature. The game is based on an original engine built on top of a Renderware graphics set, and boasts many physics features that have been wowing show goers this year. The ragdoll physics were phenomenal -- although the team has not completely beat the problems of realism inherent in the system (few devs have done ragdoll that that looks perfectly human and not instead like actual ragdolls), the crumpling dead figures fell on uneven ground and upon each other realistically. Dragging bodies is eerily realistic, as legs drag and twist lifelessly behind them. The physics set also functioned on inanimate objects, as a vase on a table knocked over and drew enemy attention when we bumped into a table. Multiple bodies piled up without dragging the framerate down, so the team is already off to a good start.

This being just the first playable pass on a playable version of the game, there's still a lot of work to do. Indoor sequences were liquid-quick, but outdoor sequences chugged and had fog (to be fair, the only outdoor sequence available was a fog-filled winterscape, so we'll see how the draw distance works out as the game evolves.) Also, not much was there in this playable demo to impress us as far as the lighting engine -- everything was evenly lit in the two stages we saw, and the light pools through windows were pre-rendered streams not as impressive as Splinter Cell. Things will, however, evolve as the game grows in development, to the point where some stages are so shadowed that players will have to listen to their SOCOM headset (or in-game voice, if you don't have the headset) for guidance through pools of light and shadow. We'll take a closer look at exactly what's possible with the graphics engine when BAM drops a more playable version of Ice-Nine on our desks in the near future.

re: General Info

I just thought I would point this out:

You can choose multiple play plots: Choose to follow orders and become a High-Ranking officer, or become a double Agent and work for the enemy.

Disguises are also plenty.

Yeah, that's going to be sweet. F1D0 wonders how the stealing uniforms thing is gonna work.
