Possible dead motor

Welllll I think my motor be dead. Long story short, went on a club car cruise sunday. Did a 120+ run off an on-ramp and at peak boost check engine light. Code scanner said engine banks 1+2 were running lean...my fuel pressure gauge read 61# at full boost, and my wideband showed a 10.8AFR..so I definitely wasnt running lean.

Drove around fine after that, all day monday and part of this morning. Get on the hwy again to go to school tonight and Im cruising along doing roughly 75, not once into boost..and I look down to see coolant temps at 210 which is normal for me in city driving with a/c on...not hwy driving with windows down. Tried the turn heater on old school trick and the temp climbed to 250(which is not good on a alum block). Got it towed home and had my neighbor do a pressure test on the radiator..pumped it to 18#s turned the car on and at idle it raised to 20# and after about 30s it popped the tester off, and the empty reservoir was now full and spewing dexcool everywhere.

Let her cool down again, turned her on and checked the exhaust pipes....puffs of white smoke and water was coming out..but my new oil was still amber clear and not a sign of water.

Weve come up with possible bad water pump(but it still spins freely), possible stuck tstat, or headgaskets have gone.

Needless to say...whatever it is the s/c is coming off the car and becoming a heads/cam car. For one itll help cooling the motor with the bigass intercooler out of the way. Secondly when I go to auto-x events I wont be placed in leet groups. Dropping the car off to my shop thur so Ill update when I find out.

re: Possible dead motor

Im running ARP headbolts. Trust me no expense was spared building this motor. Every internal is forged, cam was custom grind from comp cams built to my specs.

The vette is true dual, its cat less 3" with x-pipe setup. Water comes out both, but the smoke is more visible out of my passenger side pipe.

When the engine was idling, I don't smell coolant at the exhaust tips or inside the engine bay.

The blower is coming, its just too much heat with the florida heat, actual head unit heat, and intercooler blocking air flow to the radiator/oil cooler. Going to heads/cam itll run cooler and less maintenance.

My neighbor thinks it might of been running straight dexcool, hes seen problems with that stuff eating away at seals. So when they flush the motor Im going to run a 50/50 water antifeeze with couple bottles of water wetter.

re: Possible dead motor

Well see, all last summer my car spent its time in the shop...its never seen florida heat as much as it has. My neighbor told me that could be part of the problem, it hid the problem in the cool weather but once it started gettin hot and humid it reared its ugly head.

Even on a 40* day at cruise speeds, the lowest my temps would get it like 188 which is ok. During like 70* temps nothing more then 198 and IF I ran the a/c 210 at max.

Im not going to miss the supercharger really having all that power in my town was a waste. Ive already got plans after school to built a forged 572(C6R motor) and throw a twin turbo on that, of course with a built tranny(hoping RPM gets the A6 build down to a science and tested for numbers). Even when I was at 504hp, nothing in town or even going to school could keep up with me. So, if I stay around 500 or maybe a tad more with all motor theres always nitrous for the hwy.

re: Possible dead motor

Well Ive decided to keep the blower, solely for the fact people on the forums expect to pay 2500 for a complete kit that cost 8k. No way in hell Im letting it go for that.

Secondly, I just found someone whose buying my lincoln so I just ordered a new ram air hood, to help keep engine bay temps down.

This is what it will look like.

re: Possible dead motor

Well upon the car arriving to the shop they did a compression test and found the head gasket and all seals to be working properly. Tstat was working correctly, and they noticed my radiator fans were dead. So itll be there for a couple days waiting on parts and getting swapped. I can finally breath now.

re: Possible dead motor

Well 362hp all motor, 607hp supercharger. Plus I just spent 400 on a new tune last weekend...dont wanna spend another 400 after a new build.

Extreme heads/cam(almost sounds like its dying) will get me to lil over 500hp.

re: Possible dead motor

Well instead of making a new thread Ill just use this. Last weekend I went to a car show/dyno day at the shop who built my car, they were having a grand opening of their new shop. Well because Im their poster child in the area I got a free dyno.

Heres the shitty and confusing part. With my cutouts open I made 505hp. With them closed I made 491...Something was very wrong considering less then a month ago I had it dyno tuned with it pushin 600+ again on the dyno.

The next day me and a buddy starting going through it, and started noticing all the ghetto rigging done to the car. I was in complete disbelief that spending 30k in mods/labor they hooked shit up like I took it to a backyard mechanic in dirty south miami. So I called the shop owner and started chewing him out, and he told me to make a list(a looong list) and bring the car to him monday and theyll correct everything. After finding out all the shit wrong my dream of owning a vette felt like a raping nightmare. I cant even sit in the car and enjoy it.

So when it comes out of the shop Im putting her up for sale. Time to move onto something different, something more fun....like a 08 Mitsu EVO X MR .

re: Possible dead motor

Yeah Im buying the Evo partly cause the awd, will make auto-crossing so much more funner.

Secondly, its not going to be stock for long. Possibility of it becoming a stroker motor as well, with a gt35r turbo, and cams...along with every other bolton.

I plan to make it aroujd a 550awhp car, daily driven as well.
I thought about buying a slobra, but after watching my buddies 363hp evo8 rape one today on a car club cruise Im gonna have to pass.

re: Possible dead motor

Sooo yeah, after getting an email back from the tranny company for the evo, im def not going that route. After talking with some buddies, Im more then likely and this is a 90% chance going to happen, going to pickup a 03/04 cobra and do a built 4r70 auto swap and slap a kenne bell 2.8 on it. Ill be looking at half of what I spent on the vette and making more power.

So there ya go Ice, getting something related to my forum name haha.

re: Possible dead motor

The lightning 5.4 is only a 2v motor whereas the cobra is a 4v. Plus the bassani exhaust system on the cobra sounds better then anything for a lightning and having a car I won't have ppl calling me every weekend to help them move if I got the truck.

re: Possible dead motor

Its gonna suck, buying a car..have someone else drive it home, then have it shipped off to another state to get the trans swapped, and then when it comes back have the IRS taken out for a solid rear axle and 9" rearend put in. Im pretty sure I can handle the KB swap since its a direct bolton, then gotta find a tuner this time who can do what they claim.

Only thing Id change over that will be the wheels will be blacked out and widened SVT style but in 18s all around, and the headlamps will have the blackout look as well.
