quote Amen00 Cobra R, 03-04 Cobra had 6 speeds. You've never seen a functional 6th gear because you haven't driven one. Having that "Economy" gear makes the first 4 gears rip harder than any junk 5 speed. Trust. 6 speed > 5 speed. quote SVTmanLS1 is teh cheapness compared to higher number LSx's. quote KFC_Or_BustFor some reason i thought the termies was 5 speeds.. quoteWith that extra gear the ratios will be stretch even taller. I'd rather stick to a t5 rather than getting another gear i don't need. For me that 6th gear would be a cruising gear i hit the gov in 5th. quote..Rather have the low end torque and the sound of a LT1. quote I could preach to you about this all day but your a Ford guy so you'd never understand.Typical GM fanboy. -------------------

Low end torque of a LT1? 335tq at the crank compared to 400 from a LS2.... LT1 = the crap.
If a 6sp trans is worthless, why do most sports cars and exotics run them, they sure as shit dont care about economy. Hell the Z06 runs a T-56 actually in 09 they moved to a T6060 I believe, and its still pulling like 3.6-3.8 0-60 times. Hell with my 6sp auto I was hitting 176mph in the mid of 5th and had plenty of room to go. ------------------- Motor Cars ![]()

re: How Many Miles Are On Your Car? |
quote AmenI guess you didn't get what I said the first time around. With a six speed, the gears are SHORTER, therefor you get much better acceleration from gears 1-4, somewhat econo 5th (depending on power) and your 30+ mpg gear in 6th. To say a 5 speed is better than a 6 speed is just...Dumb! I'll say it again, you don't know any better because you haven't experienced the difference. Hell, even in the garbage trucks I drive at work there's a HUGE difference between the older Allison 5 speed auto and the newer Allison 6 speed auto. The 6 speed has a lot more get up and go in 1st-4th gear which is good when all you do is stop and go, the 5 speed one is just doggy as hell due to it's longer gears. quoteEver experience the difference? The higher low end torque is negated because even with the LS1's torque peaking higher, it's still faster because it can rev quicker and higher and ousts the LT1's marginally better bottom end. In the real world you wouldn't notice the difference, plus the LS1 sounds way mo' betta. LT1 sounds like every other Gen I SBC in the world, the LS1 is a unique sound. Please watch this video and tell me again how the 6 speed is so gay. Then compare it to this Mustang GT with 4.30s. Look how long the Mustang was in 3rd and 4th compared to the F-Body. Now compare that to speeds achieved and you'll see the LS1/T56 combo is deadly even in stock form. Mind you, 3.42'd stock F-Bodies are good for 100 in 3rd and 135 in 4th... So about 85 in 3rd and 110 in 4th with the 4.30s. Plus the now usable 5th gear with stock power and still the great fuel mileage in 6th. I've never heard anyone knock the 6 speed before, so I'm curious as to what your reasoning is. ------------------- 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada - Slow

I'm gonna jump in here and agree with Chris on this one... there is no reason to choose a 5-speed over a 6-speed if both are an option.
The ratios won't be stretched at all... you will just have more gears to cover the same spread. By your reasoning, my 4-speed auto is superior to all these new five and six speed autos out there. Doesn't make sense. A five speed gives you four gears for acceleration and one for cruising. A six speed gives you five gears for acceleration and one for cruising. Dividing 150 mph over 5 gears is better than 4 gears because of being able to stay in the power band longer. ------------------- 2004 Ford Crown Victoria- 21mm rear swaybar, BOC 91 octane tune, dual Flowmaster 40s, 3.73 gears, posi, Marauder airbox and 80mm MAF, '04 PI zip tube, 70mm tb, ported and polished intake plenum... 15.07 @ 90.65 with a 2.18 60'
