Winter Car |
|
So, I own a 1979 Porsche 924 as my daily. It is in great condition, so I'm certainly not driving it in the snow or ice, even if it does handle good.
I need to know a reasonably cheap car to get for winter driving. One that will handle good and all. I am adjusted, used, and tuned to no power steering, and shifting, and I would prefer a manual over an automatic. To be honest, I HATE automatics. I need something reasonable. I don't want to drive around in a heap or something that I'm going to have to end up putting more money to just to keep running. Suggestions please! ------------------- ![]() | |

Any Subaru sounds like it'd work well for you. Or any SUV....Winter cars aren't hard to choose!

Any cheap Crown Vic with some snow tires! Yeah, it's an auto, but they're fun as hell in the snow and proper-wheel-drive.

Come talk to me when there's real measurable snow on the ground and I'd like to see you keep praising your RWD while I easily pull away from you as you're sliding backwards down a hill because you have zero traction.
It's a simple fact that when the weather turns sour, the more axles being powered, the more traction you will have, thus it being superior in the snow. As far as fun, RWD is a *bleep*ing failboat in the snow. AWD/4X4 cannot be beaten, the speeds are higher since you have more traction to accelerate which equals to mo' funna times! ------------------- 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada - Slow

His profile says Nebraska, they get plenty of ice and snow out there.

Or so you think! They get crappy ice storms out there too and it's cold as fawk all winter long. Maybe not mountains like us, but snowfall is snowfall.

Any cheap AWD Subaru works wonders, and Subarus especially from the late 90's-early 2000's are quite cheap, get decent gas mileage, and all around are very nice cars. Only thing that was really criticized of the late 90's-early 2000 subarus was the interior was cheap, but I think you can manage. Minnesotan here, so speaking from experience.
