Well, Dantess is the "Greatest Swordsman of all the Demons", but in one of the posters in Oni 3, in Notre Dame i think, it says that Gargant is the Strongest Genma Warrior of all, so I think they'd be evenly matched.

By the way, I've heard Gargant be called by, Gargant, Garuganto, and Galleganto, so what is his name?

I agree, the forums could be a bit more active. When I first started on neo they were pretty good, getting a fair number of posts. It seems to be down to just a few per month now
Anyway, back on topic, I'll stay with my previous opinion, which is that Gogandantas would meet his fate if he fought to the death with his friend Gargant. The shield will only protect him so much, since you can actually kill him even if you dont disable his shield. Gargant seemed to be a really good warrior, giving Sam enough trouble as to force him to enter an Oni state just to win. Theres also strong suggestion that he killed Kaede which shows that hes an extremely capable fighter.

as far as Gargant being the best, well thats just propaganda that ol Guildenstern put out I bet Yet another Oni Warrior turned evil. I dont really know the 'proper' way to say Gargant's name. Im sure you could say any version of it and still get your point across

Good points Castle guard! This is my kind of thread!!! My namesake is "The greatest swordsman of all demons", and as said- he tests other beings' swordsmanship and apparently also trains the Genma swords-wielders. And after Gogandantess' death (Who cares about his shield? The shield is forever gone thanks to the flute), Gargant assumed his position as the next "Greatest swordsman of Demons".

But there must be a reason why Dantess was originally appointed Swordsmaster, along with his title. Gargant is an awesome acrobatic style swordsman. But Dantess would probably kill him, after all Gargant seems to lose his grip on his balde an awfull lot (see DoD, in the Oni graveyard).

Hah, well the two are so similar having fought against them both (finally possible in DoD). Both are agile, strong, and have a thing for shields. Theyr also both highly difficult boss battles

The Nova Death attack is when Gargant fell backwards after Sam stabbed him. He laughed his ass off and then a large explosion came from where he fell - however it did not affect Sam at all. Was this just for show, or did the Oni form protect him?

That being said, the Nova Death attack is a non-issue either way. Wouldn't Gogandantess know enough about his close friend to get out of the way?

Its a good point that Gogandantess was the original 'swordmaster.' If Gargant was so great why didnt they send him against Jubei first?
However! IMO it was simply seniority that kept Dantess in his post. After all, he has presumably been The Greatest Swordsman of all the Demons for a very long time, possibly even back to Oni times, but certainly longer than Gargant in any case. Gargant is a former Oni who willingly(?) became under Genma control. For this I'd give him a slight edge.
In any case the fight is sure to be extremely close, and could easily go either way. There is no one characteristic that makes the outcome inevitable.
