Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I can't for the life of me make my character run in alone in the dark.
It's driving me crazy. I read that in order to run you tap up twice, but all he/she does is do a double step kind of thing, but no running.

Can someone help me out?? What am I doing wrong???

I have the same problem, expecially with aitd2.
You could try to keep UP pressed, then lift up the finger and tap twice or three times. Otherwise, try using LEFT or RIGHT arrows too, while tapping on UP. It's important to run (in the final part of the game), so work it.

P.S.: does anyone know why I cannot push the anchor statue at the beginning of aitd2? tnx.

You may have to hold the button down on the second tap, because it sounds like they're starting a run but then not getting to keep it up. Seems to be a common problem with the PC versions of the Alone In The Dark series.
