re: New to PC gaming, Are there any games that are recommended? |
|
From what I can comment on, I really believe that the original Day of Defeat is superior to Source. DoD:S is more of a sequel than Cs to Cs:S was. Also, Isn't tribes 2 better than Tribes 1? I haven't played in a long time.

pfft tribes 2 was a complete flop. Graphics were better but it didnt do so well and didnt get many mods. Tribes vengeance is based off of the unreal 3 engine i believe, i could be wrong. But it does look really good compared to the others in the series.
The people who make legions at instantaction.com bought the rights to tribes and are bringing back the first game in browser form and they will release a game to be launched from your desktop for free i believe. I could be wrong. I do like the original DoD better but not as many people playing on low ping servers for me

I would seriously recommend these three games:
Bioshock (make sure you have a decent rig though, this game is a real nightmare on weak computers) Quake 4 Prey Bioshock has an excellent story, a well designed combat system, a very fun upgrade system and a nice "super powers" aspect to top it all off. Quake 4 has a decent story (your typical alien shooter adventure), but the combat is varied and fun and the weapons are also very unique (not like other games today where there are about 6 machine guns and 10 pistols). Also, this game can run well and at good graphics on almost any computer today. Prey has a great story (it has its own internal conflict, external war, very well done narrative and a well designed ending) that really leaves an "epic" vibe to the game, the weapons are also very unique (no human weapons to be found in that game) and the Spirit World is a nice addition to the combat. This game also runs about as smooth as grease on almost any computer, and at high settings too. All three games are great but if your looking for a good online multiplayer game, buy Quake 4 and Counter Strike Source (Bioshock doesn't have any online and Prey's online is mediocre). ------------------- Read my blog on a very pressing matter if you want to live...Reading it yet? quote MikstaslayaCant beat CS:S's multiplayer. IMO it's one of the best if not the best multiplayer in fps games. Also quakewars enemy territory has a pretty good multiplayer but it can be a bit difficult at some points lol.

Bioshock was a really great game. Go to www.systemrequirementslab.com to check to see if your PC can handle it.

quote AznLiquidIn your opinion. For all you know the OP could like Doom a lot more than Half-Life 2. I could not see much appeal in Half-Life 2, I found it boring, repetitive, and a little too easy, whereas I found Doom 3 slightly repetitive, yet I found the sound, atmosphere, graphics, and pretty much everything else amazing. However, Half-Life 2 is rated just as well, so look into that. My point is, don't try to overrule another person's suggestion. ------------------- London is drowning-and I live by the river

All I know is that I would love Half-Life 2: Episode 0 a lot more if I could just skip through Highway 17.
Irrelevant, but I compare Highway 17 to the 2 boats scene from The Dark Knight. I hate inconsistencies.
