Though Black Isle Studios was behind the developement of DAII, and they used the Snowblind engine for both, Interplay was the publisher. With Interplay down and out for the count, (the very small company may soon end up completely broken), the chances of the third Dark Alliance game, or another BG game, are slim. While it's possible Interplay can sell the title to another publisher, given how they are showing their 'clingyness', that probably won't until they are close to retiring.

If they do sell the title to another studio, i'd prefer it go to Blizzard Entertainment. It makes the most sense, and they are more than capable of continuing the D and D storyline in the Baldur games.

thatll just suck. i was looking forward to another DA game and also maybe even another Baldurs Gate game. if this ends up happening i think i might just cry.

From what I read on Wikipedia this already happened.

The Champions of Norrath games are the "continuation" of the Baldur's Gate games. After Interplay was out of the mix, instead of making DA3 they did CoN and CoN: rise to arms (I think, all from memory).

It really sucks, but there you have it. Really the big issue with all of it was the Wizards of the Coast and the Dungeons & Dragons licensing. It might come out later that they do a Dark Alliance III. When they say that they made Champions of Norrath instead of BG:DA3, really it means that they were budgeted to do a fantasy rpg and had to make one with what was available. Its expensive for gaming companies to have to sit on stuff like that. Champions of Norrath was not my favorite game. It did some things better than BG:DA and other things worse. I'm sure there is still a large Dark Alliance fan-base that can be tapped. It all comes down to the licensing though.

On April 9, 2008, Interplay confirmed that they will undertake sequels for Dark Alliance, Earthworm Jim, Descent and MDK series. They have also announced production of a Fallout MMO.
