re: Anticipation for this title???

No more anticipation. Only dissapointment. Actually once I fugure out all the crap I can't find in the manual, like how to change the cannon shot type I'll probably start enjoying the game more. I find it very hard to believe that the developers put so little thought into the the interface and user controls. It is rather obvious that the people who wrote the manual must have had a differnt version of the game. Even Bethesda's site still lists the game as Sea Dogs 2 in thejir support section. It's games like this that kill the developers and publishers. Most people will not take the time to learn the curve. The game crashed on me the first 2 minutes of play, froze the system completely. The sound needs fixing, along with the ability to adjust user controls to suit PC users. Imagine all the sales they'll loose because they failed to take a few more moments to make the game more enjoyable to those who have never experienced a game like this. This game was being developed solely for the PC. I can see why it is the shape it is in, and why their plan to capture 2 markets (XBOX and PC)at once will fail. They stopped work on the PC version, started the XBox port and never finished the game. Hopefully patches will be available shortly. Actually what Akella and Bethesda hopes is that the additional revenue they take in due to the relationship with the Movie will outweigh the lost sells from the fans of the genre. The problem with that logic is that it is a one time deal. Pissed off customers usually don't come back for another round of head aches. It's more of a move that a dying company makes before they announce bankruptcy. Trying to take the money and run. Enough ranting about PoTC. I'm sure I'll start loving the game more once I get use to it and learn how to do things that aren't explained in a manual that describes controls differently than how they are presented in the game. What irks me the most is the fact that it is so obvious that the real reason why the game was delayed wasn't because of the movie timing but the fact that the game is still unfinished. I'm just glad their selling the engine liscense to other developers who will hopefully do a better job at developing a game. Now I go off to die in a number of ways that should never happen with more developement. If they really want to be rich they need to get it right the first time. Happy customers always come back for more and bring their friends along as well. I'd recommend this game to a those who liked Sea Dogs and Pirates(Microprose), like myself, but would give the game a 2 rating to those who just want to pick it up because of the Movie. Saves them the headache of not liking it and not being able to get their money back. I still dig the game just hate the hassle. After thinking about it Sea Dogs had many of the same problems that kept it from being the title that it could have been. Looks like they just can't learn from their own mistakes.

re: Anticipation for this title???

Well said, the game is more of a chore to play than an actual 'fun' game. I'd give it a review, but that in itself would be too much work! Sailing, the part that is supposed to be the funnest part, is hell...you can't save while sailing, so all of the friggin work, trying to avoid storms and other pirates, goes out the window, as soon as you either get hit by a storm, or in a battle with ships. They don't allow the player to grow with the game, and level up so as to compete in this world. Any on land sword fights had to be avoided, cause your character is just useless. Now Morrowind started off much in the same way, but it was rather easy to level up, and become more competitive, here in Pirates, you can't. This sucks as I was waiting so long for this game...I'm just glad that I was smart enough to rent it first. If you really want to get this game, and suffer through it, wait a month or two, you'll be able to buy it for less than half the price.

re: Anticipation for this title???

I already got it kinda cheaper for Xbox at $59 usually games cost around $64 or $69. I love it so far. Hey Imugly are you complaing about the PC version because this forum is for the Xbox version. I just don't think its fair if you're going on a negative rant about the PC version in the Xbox forum.

You can level up Razurkiel. You just have to follow the story once you get some better ships, it seems to level up by the 800s in storms or maybe it depends on the characters level. Also fort attacks, when you destroy a fort cannon it gives you 1000 experience points.

The game has alot of leveling up categories, plus atributes so I like it this far. I was thinking once I get a million dollars with the loan shark the game might get boring, but hijacking ships and destroying forts will always be there to entertain.

I haven't checked out alot of the dungeons yet either.

I've played this game around 20-25hrs, alot of the time from 12am to 4-5am, I had abit of fun with it. Bugs can sometimes be solved, for example I had 3 frigates and another merchant ship with me and I kept getting bad saves, so I sold of two of my frigates and I could save again. Actually once I sold some ammunition from one of my frigates, it let me save again.

I like this game alot so far. The Xbox version that is, since I think the controller is good for it, rather than a keyboard and mouse. I'm not going to say buy it at full price to everyone either, unless you don't really need the money and need an Xbox game and something to do. I have no real complaints about it though, the load times are also fairly short.

I like the whole ships, sea battles, islands and tropical setting, but hey KOTOR will be out for Xbox in a few days too.

re: Anticipation for this title???

Sorry bout that. Didn't know this was XBox only. Neither developer nor publisher offers forums. Must be a reason for that. Why put up forums when all you'll hear is bad crap about your games. Did you know that the reason why PoTC sucks so bad on the PC is because they stopped developement on the PC version which was originally the only version just so they could grab the Xbox kids attention and a few more dollars at the expense of the fans of the genre. Gesus now I'm pissed off at Microsoft for screwing up my anticipated PC game. Take it all in tounge and cheek my friend. I'm staying away from Akella in the future. They lost me and many more on this one.

I'm just glad I remembered to carefully peel the tape off the box which allowed me to fool the store into thinking I never opened it when I returned it for a refund. That's the only good praise I can give to Bethesda for not using stickier tape on the box.

Until developers stop putting out crap there will always be a need for pirates. Just so you can get your money back on the next title if the developer puts something out that is actually worth the money you put down on their previous POS. I'll get screwed once, but not again, and I'll always look for a way to get my money back from the thieves who took it. After all it is the principle of the matter. And after trying to play the game for many hour only to be let down by the fact that following the story line off the bat makes you have to start over from the beginning. It's also funny how no matter where you land on an island other than the ports you always wind up at the same spot, and are limited to staying on the pathways.

Akella could learn something from develpers such as Egosoft and Massive who put out demos before the release and rely on word of mouth from happy customers and good reviews.

Anyhoot if the game works for you on the Xbox without some of the problems I heard there are on the Xbox with PoTC, good for you. I hope you enjoy the genre and will look for future games of the genre. At least you won't be let down by a crappy version the next title. PoTC is that crappy version. It can only get better in the future for Xbox fans of PoTC. But it sure is a humongoid let down for the PC fans who were lead to believe that nothing changed when they acquired the PoTC liscense from Disney except for the name.

re: Anticipation for this title???

I never played the first. Yeah I'm having problems now too. I'm on that mission where I'm supposed to attack that Greenford fort, but the game keeps crashing when I get a second battleship from sea battles.

I board a battleship, and it crashes right away, or I win a battle on the main deck, or get to the second level and then it crashes, its happened like 3-4 maybe even more times now. This was last night, maybe it will work better today.

Still not enough to ruin it for me though, maybe I can just sneek into the town instead or something, and get whatever I need accomplished. I don't/can't really complain about games that have given me 20+hrs of entertainment.

At the start I liked how everyone calls you captain. Almost makes you feel like an airline pilot. "Why hello there captain." etc. Plus you transport alot of goods and people between islands, so you're like some 1700-1800s airline pilot, only with ships.

My boarding party is good now too, like 7 and 8 melee ability. Plus you have to admit its a good option that you can give them a bunch of good potions before you go into battle and then they use them during combat, a good way to keep them alive. Morrowind never had any of this. Not sure if this was the thread we were comparing Morrowind and POTC with. Having officers to take with you on land kinda makes me feel like Star Trek you know the Away Team.

I think there is a PC forum for POTC. Just go to neoseeker forums and click on PC. I guess the occasional PC POTC post is alright by me, not like I'm a mod, but I think there is a PC forum for the game.
