Warning to all potential players of PotC.

Bethesda should be ashamed to have released this with all of the game crippling bugs that reside within the game.

After defeating Greenford Fort quest, I then have to defend it against a counter-invasion....upon defeating them, the game goes bad, will not allow me to save, and gives the white screen which reboots the game.
This has happened five times in a row, and I see no way out of it. Basically my game is finished, as there is no where to go from this point.
Now I am left with a shiny silver coaster to go along with my $50.00 movie ticket.
Thank you to Bethesda for making what could have been a fantastic game into a real sinking pile of crap.

re: Warning to all potential players of PotC.

Do you have too many ships? Maybe you have too many ships, thats why it can crash, get rid of some ships and it won't crash as easy.

It took me awhile untill my game actually accepted two battleships, and then I couldn't often save after boarding another frigate.

Anyway maybe you have too many ships. I think it may also help not to have too many officers/party members, so you could try taking some of them off too, or also making sure you don't have 8 passengers, get rid of some of the ones you don't need, it could also be because you're ship or ships has too much cargo in it.

I've also noticed, it seems to crash less if you save at the gates of a town instead of the pier, or maybe I'm wrong. I've also had good saves in the shipyard, or maybe its because I already lightened my load by then. I don't know but I've probably had more crashes on the pier, than the gates, and I sorta trust the gates, probably because I lightened my load though.

I also don't carry alot of jewelry, or pickup items, mostly just health stuff.

The fact I've spent around 25hrs on this game, makes me not regret buying it. I liked the story, and am still enjoying the game. Not saying its for everyone. The crashes can get me a little mad, but I usually have a couple of saves, they don't ruin the game for. I like the graphics alot and the tropical setting. A battleship also looks cool, when in port, like at Douwesen, especially after 4 or 5hrs of play.

I havent forgotten Elder Scrolls 2 and I am very ashamed of them. Got to remember that Elder Scrolls Morrowind was also bugged maybe not as bad but there were several that I found. Bottom line is that we might be ashamed but we all will probably keep buying them.

what bugs do you speak of in morrowind? i havnt found any. at least nothing as serious as Pirates, like game ruining bugs that should have been dealt with in the development phase.

Brand new XBOX and brand new game and it froze up like you would not believe. Not at the start but about half way through. Unless I saved every 5 minutes it seemed I had to keep doing things over and over again. Kinda like the white screen of death in PotC.

In Morrowind for the Xbox version atleast if the load of stuff you are carrying is close to the maximum weight your character can carry the game can crash.

It also use to crash on me when I had boots of blinding speed on, permanent levitation on, and invisible on. When I use to fly around on the map it crashed sometimes.

POTC can get annoying at times...I noticed that if I save a lot the game doesn't crash which is weird...and as for the Morrowind (Xbox) issue I had my first Freeze tonight it was when I exited a building...the loading bar was complete and then the game just froze!

i also think pirates of the caribbean has many floors the worst of which is NO STRAF! im a massive rpg fan and play a hell of alot of them but this game really does need a side step! i hav been killed many a time by not having the function of a side step! i must jst add though this is the most addictive game eva ut would benefit from being more like morrowind! gd try bethesda but but not as gd as Morrowind!

p.s Morrowind is ace!

I have yet to pass the part of the game where you first go to the so called "Pirate Island", Right after you meet the cursed Pirates, I wanna play this game but the bugs get me everytime I start, I don't have enough time to play this game again so Im quiting.

.... I hate when I waste money.

re: Warning to all potential players of PotC.

There are some basic rules to dealing with crashes:
1. The more "stuff" your character has (ships, items, money not invested, etc.) the more likely they will happen.
2. ALWAYS have at least two separate saves, and keep cycling them.
3. Don't push buttons while somthing is loading.
4. Save often, it's quick and easy, and after a while it becomes habit.
5. Find save places that don't corrupt as often as others. For me it's on the main map. I always save as soon as I enter that screen and it hasn't corrupted a game yet (Knock on wood).
6. Most importantly: THEY WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN. This is a massively large and in depth game, and therefore should be expected to have some bugs. Morrowind is the same way and quite often I found the ones in that game more frustrating because they often make you restart your entire game while PotC can usually be salvaged unless you're unfortunate enough to have the game crash and all your saves corrupt at the same time (Happened to me before).

That's about it. Yeah the bugs are a pain, but despite all the grief they've given me I still love this game above all except maybe Morrowind. Definitely try this game as long as you don't get too uptight about the occasional crashes.
