re: Fighting at Sea

Sorry to say, but there is no one way to win an engagement. Basically it comes down ot a variety of factors, depending on what type of ship you have. If you have few guns, but better speed than your opponent you can just try to stay in their blind spots. if you have more guns but less speed, try to keep them in your firing zones. If you have Culverines you can try to out distance their guns. If you have canon then you're going to have to attempt to out shoot them. If you have a better hull, then you can just try to out last them. What I usually do, especially in the lower levels, is simply boost Nathaniel's Melee combat skills and keep boarding vessels, but this only works if you've got enough crew. Don't try boarding a battleship if you've only got the 59 men on a Lugger! And don't try it if the only weapons you've got are the sissy pistol and the sword you start with. IF possible go to Duewesen and get the Saber of Nick sharp from the guy in the tavern, and look for the Grapeshot pistol (it'll be at one vendor or another, but it's exspensive, but worth it). If you have smaller guns, with shorter range, few troops, lower hull, and less speed...invest in a life jacket, 'cause you're goin' down.
