HL2 crashes back to desktop with this message |
|
At first HL2 played just fine, but then suddenly I'm not able to load my saves. As soon as I click on "Load Game" it crashes back to my desktop and gives me the following message:
"FATAL ERROR: Could not acquire necessary game files because the connection to Steam servers was lost." How do I fix it?

Download the latest drivers for your graphics card and restart Steam to get the new HL2 patch via the auto-update. You can find more advice here

I had big problems connecting to steam. I've got a 1MB Broadband high speed connection, but it looks to me that steam can't cope with the high demand from users. Valve has messed up on this one. A few of my friends, and I'm talking about 4 so far, have returned the game because of this. I managed to create my account and unlock the game at 3.00am (uk) on the day after release over here, this was after 4 hours of trying in the evening. Even then, for a short time afterwards it was validating game files for 20 minutes when I started it up. I am not impressed with steam. The links to steam in the game start menu don't connect either. Steam, in my opinion, will kill the single player offline gaming majority.

If you have are getting this error
FATAL ERROR: Could not acquire necessary game files because the connection to Steam servers was lost." Block hl2 from accessing internet on the Firewall and if you have windows xp service pack 2 also block it when you get the message asking you to block hl2. I had the same problem and that's how I fix it. It works perfectly now

I have problem with half life 2. When ever I save and reload that game everyone is frozen and no one fights back. I just shot everyone and they don't fight back. Sometime it works normal and other time this happens. What's wrong with the game?

try deleting your last couple saved games in the saved game directory. this worked for me. I made copies of them first.
