re: Half-Life 2 System Requirements

You'll be able to run the game on 800x600 on medium settings with little or no slowdown.

re: Half-Life 2 System Requirements

The processor is the absolute minimum this game needs and the RAM isn't too great either. I think your 6600GT is heavily bottlenecked. I suggest getting a new processor and if possible another 512mb's of RAM to get rid of any stuttering.
It will run though, on your current system, but I'm guessing you'd lag quite a lot.

re: Half-Life 2 System Requirements

I have a standard Media Center PC, and I haven't done any upgrades to my sound system or graphics card, but I can run Half-Life 2 at the highest resolution with the highest-res textures. Don't ask me how.

Half-life2 will run on low settings at 800x600, same with Call of Duty2.

re: Half-Life 2 System Requirements

Half-life 2 wont start? To put it on DirectX 7, open up Steam and bring up your games List. Right click on half-life2 and click properties, from there go to "Set launch options" Then type in "-dxlevel 80"
Anything less then DirectX 8 (like 7) may lead to graphical bugs but you can still try it without harming the game.

re: Half-Life 2 System Requirements

First of all, do your powersupply and motherboard support the X1900GT? If your motherboard has a PCI-e slot, and if your powersupply is at least 450 watt with 30 Amps on the 12v rail you should be alright. Basically, a decent 450 PSU can handle this card.
Your RAM and CPU could use quite an upgrade too though, one of the best bangs for the buck is an AMD X2 4200+ or the (cheaper and singlecore) AMD Athlon64 3800+, but you would also have to get a new motherboard. I would also recommend you to get at least 1 gig of RAM, by today's standards, anything underneath that is worthless.

If I were you, I'd just get a new PC altogether. If you don't want to, get a cheaper videocard (7600GT/X1800GTO - they can play all games on high settings but are way cheaper), with a decent motherboard (Socket AM2, prefferably) with an X2 4200+ and at least 1 gig of RAM.
That will last you a while and isn't even all that expensive.

If you would get an X1900GT with your current system, it would get bottlenecked. However, theoratically it should easily be able to play Half-Life² at 1900x1200 with maxed out settings, 4xAA and 16xAF. No need to worry about that.

re: Half-Life 2 System Requirements

To be fair tho, the game is quite old though, isn't it?

Ive had it for 2 years.

But, it should have a mod none the less.

{Referring to first post}.

You can play the game easily, with little to no lagg, on medium=high specs.
No problems there mate, and do alot people still play due to the addons? I found an addon a while back, where i edited all of the weapons ect. And made myself look like sam fisher. Can't remember the website though. Probably ww.halflife2files.com or similar to that URL'

And also, i have;

640MB RAM
AMD SEMPRON 2900+
1.6 GHZ.
Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 4000 (64MB).

And i can play the following games on Medium-High settings.

Guildwars,
World of warcraft,
Counterstrike source,
Call of duty 2,
Half life 2.

So, i guess it depends on other things too [/color]

There's more to a PC than just it's RAM. Can you post the rest of your specs?
