hi everyone, im having lots of troubles with half life 2. i have recently downloaded the game via steam and now every time i load the game and play it for about 5 minutes i get the message about an internal directx problem, the screen becomes all filled with little rectangles and the game stops responding, the same thing happens with cs source. this problem started to bother me after i have upgraded my comp with radeon x1300 and a 1 Gb of Ram. now my hardware congiuration is as follows:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.93 Ghz Intel 915GAVL Prescott motherboard 80 Gb WDC WD800BB hard drive 1024 Mb of ram Radeon x1300 256mb Windows Xp Media Centre SP 2 i would really appreciate if someone helped me with this problem. | |

Do you have DirectX 9 installed?

yep, i have directx 9 (july adition)and my video drivers are up to date

If it happens with Half Life 2 AND CS:Source, then the problem is that your video card doesn't seem to like the Source Engine. Does it work with other games? If so, which ones?

it works perfectly with FEAR, all the games on Doom 3 engine, NFS Most Wanted, Splinter Cell 3 and Battlefield 2.
i dont get why does it happen particularly to HL2, while i run Prey and other new fps games on high settings and everything works fine. | |

So it does that with Half Life 2 as well as CS: Source? Looks like your video card just doesnt like the source engine for some reason.....

You said you downloaded it via steam? So you didn't buy the retail game? that might help..
As the retail game had a different patch towards the download itself, plus steam can screw things up from what i've heard. | |

but before the upgrade, when i had my 64 mb videocard, everything seemed to be fine, even though sometimes the game lagged so much that it was almost imposible to play it

ok people, thanx for help, i have succesfyllt fixed the problem
 , it was all in the software. i had to update all the drivers and DX9, but now its completely fine.tnx a lot everyone  | |
