re: Failed to Lock Vertex Buffer

im using the nvidia driver in 8.10 was getting the same error 2 things seemed to work

1. enable virtual desktop in wine 800x600
2. sudo nvidia-settings
set up each screen as a seperate x screen the extended desktop feature was causing hl2 to try to load 2056 x1024
it would also work if you disable one moniter

re: Failed to Lock Vertex Buffer

I have Counter Strike Source and Garrys Mod. I get this message in Garry's mod but not Counter Strike. Garry's Mod gives me this message when I try to enter a map. I cant even go in for a second!

I downloaded these games from Steam.

I don't know if I can get a refund or not from Steam but I should.

Unless someone knows how to fix this.

THIS IS SIMPLE JUST DOWNLOAD LASTEST DIRECT X AND MAKE SURE U RE-INSTALL UR VIDEO CARD.. WORKS EVERY TIME

That Simple...just trying to help.
WARNING This user isn't as smart as he looks....

Running my computer with an Nvidia 7300GT with 3 day old drivers, 2 gigs of ram, 2.2 ghz processor, tried your ideas and it did absolutely no good.

This problem has been around for 3 years, Valve has no idea what to do. Apparently they're too "busy" to make an unlocking file for the vertex buffers or post an answer to any of us, in fact the emails I sent to them NEVER get replies back. I even tried contacting Nvidia and they said it probably was a fault made by steam which makes it incompatibie with advanced systems. I.E. if your comp has enough you play HL2 with like 60+ FPS it will actually crash the game.... Out of spite....
Why had my Nvidia graphics card worked perfectly fine without crashing before updating the drivers to the most recent version then? Unfortunately I don't remember which version I was on before updating. I had Direct X 8 I believe, and updated that. And if you're curious which graphics card I have, it's an Nvidia GeForce 6200. and with your theory, why does my friend, who is able to play at 500 fps or more on just about any map, never get an error?
