I bought the disc version of Half-Life 2 when it came out and I was wondering whether someone I sell it to could install in on their system even know I used the code to install it the first time on my machine.

no, if you sell it on, u'd have to release the username and password so they could play it, or get valve to reset the code, i bought mine off ebay and had alot of trouble over this.
