re: NFL Thread V.07 |

You know, I just realized something... Pat Tillman wasn't the first NFL Player to die in a war.
If I'm not mistaken... I read in a Time Magazine, or Sports Illustrated that a former NFL player, an offensive tackle if I'm not mistaken, joined the service during Vietnam, where he was ultimately killed in a firebomb attack upon an outpost that was undersiege for a month before it finally fell. He and his best friend both died in the attack... I can't seem to remember his name... can anyone verify who this man was? I remembered him when I was reading an article about how Pat Tillman, although a great man, doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, but that the Courage Award the NFL was making in his name.... I just can't remember his name... for some reason I think he played for either the Bronco's, Bills or the Oilers.... -------------------

Yeah, he played for the Bills.
I cant remember his name, but Jack Kemp was on Total Access and brought him up, and his name was put up on the circle of names at Rich Stadium. I cant remember his name right now for the life of me though.

re: NFL Thread V.07 |
quote The StingerAnyways, I brought this up because of the push to put Tillman into the Hall of Fame, I mean, he wasn't even that oustanding of a player like all of the Hall of Famers are, he was a solid starter, but not Hall worthy. Just because he died fighting for this country after leaving a multi-million dollar deal in the NFL doesn't automatically make him Hall worthy. If the guy whose name I can't remember (and I feel really bad about this...) didn't get into the Hall for the same exact thing, then Pat Tillman shouldn't either. Although both men should get special recognition for their service to their country along with all of the other Pro Football players that served in the Armed Forces at Canton, in an Armed Forces display. (A display that noted NFL players who served in the armed forces). It could be put on the pre-Hall of Fame walk, it sort of spirals around different memorable parts of NFL history such as Red Grange to Jim Marshall... They could put the little display honoring Pat and the others at the top just before the Hall of Fame actually begins. If any of you have been to Canton, you'll know what I'm talking about.... -------------------

The guys name is Bob Kalsu. He played guard for us and was part of the "Electric Company" who so beautifully blocked for O.J during his glory days.

Speaking of the Bills...
5 time probowl running back, Thurman Thomas for the Bills and the Dolphins was arrested for possesion of marijuana ..... On Eli's note I heard that his first day in the Giants training camp was horrible, having two snaps he couldn't handle, and an interception, along with a few other things not going in his favor.... I am going to point and laugh if Eli can't handle the NFL and put the Giants in a hole. Looking at Yahoo sports I was reading about Tillman being honored at Sun Devil Stadium, they did mention the fact that he was the first NFL player to be KIA since the Vietnam Conflict, althought 19 NFL players were killed in World War II. It did have Bob Kalsu's name at the bottom of the page, but it did not give the names of the 19 other men. Tillman was killed while leading his group of Rangers in to help free more U.S. soldiers pinned down by enemy gunfire. -------------------

quote CotyCarr56I think the Giants and Chargers are making a big mistake by rushing their rookie QB into action this year. Surely, the new rookie QBs will bring a lot of fans to the stadium, but the historically speaking, most rookies Qbs don't do well in their first year (Troy Aikman,Elway, and even his brother Peyton are the few to be named). Therefore, don't be surprised that Eli will be booed by Giant fans at his own stadium in this season.

Well, the latest rumors are that the Giants are interested in Kurt Warner, they invited him to a dinner, and he was at the Giants facility on Monday.
Perhaps Coughlin sees that Eli is going to need some time to adjust to the pro level, and wants to bring Warner in to start, for a cheaper price than what Kerry Collins wanted.

Stinger, does angelfire no longer work with neoseeker boards? the images dont show up on my computer anymore, just says an image hosted by angelfire or w/e. but ive seen other images that are linked from other sites still work.
And to make this so it has some importance.... I think kurt warner will make a good fit with teh giants. The giants are who i think pretty much destroyed kurt warners season last year by putting so much preasure on him and makin ghim fumble like 6 times. If you cant beat them, Join them i guess.

It would probably be wiser for the Giants to bring in Warner to start. If he is still in his slump THEN put out Eli, but until then they played to big of a price for him to break down, or have a bad first few years. I think they should let him watch and maybe have him start a game in the middle of the season to see how quickly he has adapted to the NFL and if he is ready to start right away. I know there are the preseason games, but he's not exactly going to be playing the best defenses at the whole time, plus in the middle of the season there will be alot more passion as it will be in the middle of the playoff hunt and teams will be giving it everything they got.
Also as a diehard Bills fan I was very dissappointed as well in the T.Thomas arrest. Thought he was better than that. Also on the Tillman Hall of Fame thing. I understand it's sad to see someone die in war. However the media is glorifing him over the reason that he gave up millions of dollars to defend his country. What about all the other men and women who leave there family to go over and fight. Yes it was a heroic thing to do but as the constitution states "All men are Equal", so why should he be immortalized when so many others that have died are not!! The mere thought of that just thoroughly tick me off. This message was edited by goldensteelix on May 12 2004. -------------------

quote K0nKuzh0nIm not sure what is up with the image linking here. Sometimes the images are offline for a while and come back due to a problem with the image hosting site, and other times, they wont work at all, due to a problem here at Neoseeker. I know that my Strike9 account doesnt work here at neoseeker anymore. I dont have an account with angelfire, so Im not sure what is up with that. Id say if it isnt working in a day or two, then you probably will have to link from another site.

quote mj_da_bestYes, P.Holmes's dad was definitely serving for this country as a marine (I think)either at Iraq or Afganistan. About P.Tillman. Even though, it's a heroic thing that P.Tillman did for all of us, however, I still don't think he should be in HOF just because he is a war hero. The NFL's HOF is for football athletics who basically have done something in the game of football or changed the way how we play the game, but not in the real life though. However, I think Pat Tillman belongs to the army's Hall of Fames if there is such one in the military.
