Lament or Curse? |

Which game do you prefer?... Despite some stuff, I must say I prefer Lament of Innocence... How the whole story reverts in the last part was great...

Curse of Darkness does have some cool gameplay elements, but it didn't really progress as a game from Lament of Innocence, and as you said the storyline for Lament of Innocence was much better. It really got me involved into the action. So I prefer Lament of Innocence as well.

Yeah, they didn't progress THAT much in Curse.

quote IkaryAgreed, COD was a step back. The only thing that would have made LOI perfect would have been the addition of the level up system. -------------------

I just recently beat curse, so I can finally have an opinion on it!
Positive - I thought curse was fun, and the Innocent Devils were pretty cool to watch evolve and level. Customizing them was and will continue to be fun. I also enjoy the variety of weapons Hector may use as opposed to Leon's whip. I quite enjoyed playing as Trevor, too. Trevor has style, and his item crushes are useful. Negative - Hector has a serious deficiency in the style department. Leon may have had only one weapon, but he could lay the smack down with almost "Dante-esque" grace. There was also some slight over-emphasis of the Innocent Devils. It was nice raising them, but it really subtracted from the "Castlevania" feel of the game. The chairs were a little too silly for my taste, as well (however, I LOVE the 'theraputic chair'). Maybe a goofy easter egg in one or two places, but not an entire room and quest around them. I think Curse would have done better under a different title, as well. It was pretty weak of Konami to force a game out and just toss it into a franchise so it will sell well (hehe, three double 'l' word in a row - I'm a genious!). Cut Dracula, Trevor, and maybe even Death, call it "Forgemaster" or something, and let stand on its own. As for Trevor, I think that it would have been more nostalgic, and quite a bit more challenging to make him find his sub-weapons instead of giving all of them to him. Wow... I thought I would be defending Curse, but it looks like I have more complaints than compliments. Overall - I enjoyed playing Curse, and am quite happy with it, but it really should not have been a Castlevania. I agree. That Castlevania feel is totally absent from this game.
It's a shame, that the greatness of Symphony of the Night can't be reproduced by a company that's supposed to be quite able to do so. I blame the Director. He's sitting on the series, not trying to let it flourish. Same as Kojima. Shit, these guys might actually be obliged to make games, and no longer really want to. But the title of being the head of these franchises holds these guys to it until they've destroyed the series. Dracula gone, Snake dying. What the *bleep*? ------------------- ![]() | |

I still never got around to playing Curse of Darkness, but I'd love to see more Castlevania games like Lament of Innocence, or 3D versions of their classic games like Symphony of the Night.
