re: Games Graphics

It's quite noticeable that Silicon Knights took a lot of shortcuts. Just look at Snake's weapons...

The game looks good, but it's 2004 now, and the Gamecube's supposed to be superior to the PS2, right?

Just goes to show that this would have been a better looking game if Kojima's team were directly involved in it.

It's obvious that not a lot of love went into the development of this game.

It's only good because it's a remake of a classic. Strip down everything related to Metal Gear, and you'd end up with a game with mediocre graphics.

I agree the graphics could have been better but to me when you strip down this game you are still left with an amazing game. MGS1 PS1 is still amazing, TTS is just even better! It's not the best but it definitely makes playing much more fun!

re: Games Graphics

i honestly dont get all the dissing on the graphics. my god, the stage with the snow is gorgeous. how the wind picks up the snow and makes flurries! you feel like youre outside in the snow! maybe its because i never played the original MGS and MGS2, but i love the musice, sound, and graphics!! it might be because i'm so focused on avoiding guards, i dont have time to investigate for "pixelly textures"

re: Games Graphics

I just think that Silicon Knights were rushed a little bit and they didn't focus their time in the right areas. They tried to get all the little details into the game's graphics, but they didn't do their best to make it look as realistic as they could, when it should have been the other way around. The codec cut-scenes they didn't even work on purely to save time. You can't tell me they didn't because I watch the codec scenes and a lot of times the animation of the characters doesn't match what the character is supposed to be saying. I noticed in the codec sequences that a lot of times when the "..." just pops up on the screen as to trigger akward silence, I see the characters mouths moving as if they were talking, but no words were coming out! That element proves that they were obviously a little rushed. I love the game because it captures the magic of the classic in most ways, but some of the small things hold it back from being what it could've been. The Resident Evil remake was not only the greatest remake of all time, but it actually surpassed the original in terms of impact. The REmake left more of an impact on me than the original RE itself. The Twin Snakes did not have the same affect, and I didn't expect it to, but I expected it to be a little better than it was. I still love it though, it's absolutely amazing. Easily the best game I've played this month.

Also, I don't know if it's like this with other Cube titles, since this game is the only game I have for the Cube, but the game looks somewhat like a compressed mpeg file.

this is one of the few GC titles with lots of cut scenes, though i'm not sure what you mean by it looks like an mpeg file. all i have to say is go buy metroid prime, and you will be in for a VERY pleasant suprise

If i remember correctly the original wasn't lip synced either, Konami always used the Japanese version of the codec screens. Besides, i liked the old codec messages. I did expect new 3d ones, but leaving those in was good for a nostalgic feeling.

What I mean is the whole look of the game, textures and all, especially during the cut scenes, it looks like a compressed mpeg file. You know, kinda' like watching a video review or a music video online. The look isn't clean and smooth.

As for buying another Cube title, honestly, I'd rather not. The truth is, I hate the Gamecube, and I only bought one for this game.

Well then you remembered wrong, because in the original codec cut-scenes, the lips matched what the characters were saying. Characters lips wouldn't continue to move on the codec screen in the original if the talking stopped, not so for this remake. I know, because I played the original so much. I liked the original codec cutscenes too, but if they're gonna use them for the 'nostalgia' feeling like you say, then I think they should have done a better job translating the codec animation. Instead of the absolute sloppy job they did updating the codec animations. Which leads me to believe that they didn't use the original codec animations simply for the 'nostalgia' factor, they did it to conserve time. The game could've made the game look better than Sons of Liberty too, if they weren't being rushed.

re: Games Graphics

They already had the right tools, and basically, all they had to really work on was the graphics coz the game itself was already good, plus they also had resources taken from MGS2, yet they still managed to make the game's graphics mediocre at best.

Hey, I know ya'll think the game looks good, but come on, it's 2004, and frankly, we've seen better, even from older games.

That just goes to show that Kojima's team from Konami spoils us too much. When it comes to Metal Gear games, we're just not used to half-assed efforts on the graphics department.

Some of us kinda' hate Kojima for what he did with MGS2's storyline, but we can't deny the fact that when it comes to developing an MGS game, or any game for that matter, his team is the best.
