May 01, 2003 - Nintendo of America this morning announced that Konami would publish a new Metal Gear title exclusively for GameCube. The title, called Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, is in development not by Konami, but rather by Canada-based second-party Silicon Knights. Shocked? Keep reading.
Twin Snakes, more or less a total remake of the PS1 game Metal Gear Solid, has been under development by SK for a considerable amount of time, and the company has worked hard to up the graphics presentation of the title so that it more closely resembles the recently released next-generation Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. In fact, it's said to look even prettier. The title will ship later this year in the US and Europe and early 2004 in Japan.

Silicon Knights is re-creating the game under the guidance of Konami's Hideo Kojima and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto.

"I am tremendously excited to introduce a unique Metal Gear Solid experience to a new audience of gamers as well as collaborate with my mentor in game design, Mr. Miyamoto, on Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for Nintendo GameCube," said Hideo Kojima, vice president, Konami Computer Entertainment Japan.

"Mr. Kojima and I have spoken about this project for some time, and I'm excited our ideas have matched so perfectly," added Shigeru Miyamoto, senior managing director of Entertainment Analysis and Development Division, Nintendo. "It's this shared passion for game creation that has allowed us to collaborate to bring a special Metal Gear project exclusively for Nintendo GameCube."

Nintendo will show the game in fully playable form at its E3 2003 booth later this month.

Man I don't think any MGS fan can wait to see it, lol! It's going to be awesome to see the screenshots of the game in action, man the critics can even tell us what the game is like, that's totally awesome.

re: Twin Snakes: News/Updates/Screens/Speculation

was wondering if you think a DEMO version may be released by the end of summer....if so, will it be on a KONAMI game or what? Just wondering your thoughts.

ALSO: How do u think the GAMECUBE controller will handle the MOVEMENTS (will there be extra movements not previously seen in MGS1) Will this controller work well with this game? your thoughts appreciated.

I have a feeling the above screen was fake, but that's just me. Guys, 2003 is the year of Snake! We've got MGS3, huge game, and now a fully remade version of the classic, MGS.

re: Twin Snakes: News/Updates/Screens/Speculation

I don't know, that screen looks pretty real to me, but like you said, that's just me. Oh hell yeah, 2003 is the year of the Snake all right, just like 1998 and 2001 were the years of the Snake, but I think this tops the past years. Although, I don't know if MGS3 will be in 2003, of course I can only hope. If it is then the wait will actually seem more bearable than the excruciating wait for MGS2. Oh I F***ING LOVE IT!

I doubt the final version of MGS3 will be out this year, but as long as I eventually get it, I don't mind.
