Argonian treasure hunter

I'm thinking of starting a new game with an Argonian to search blighted areas for treasure.
Thought it would be completely different from the Berton I've been playing for some time now but, one that would be more resistant to Blight and other diseases.
Any suggestions on the best stats for this type of character?

The Beast races are a REAL disappointment!
Fine if you want a role playing challenge but, I find them very frustrating!
No matter how I set the stats the characters suck.

Maybe I'll try a Redguard next.

re: Argonian treasure hunter

i havent TRIED any of the beast race yet, cause they cant wear full helm and i LOVE full helms

But if ur going as a treasure hunter, Redguard seems like a pretty good choice to me, good attack...good health...ok magika i think.

But idk, i say any race is good for treasure hunter

re: Argonian treasure hunter

I think I've finally got the Argonian's stats set to make for a fun character.
Kept changing the major skills until I got the Water Walking ,Ancestral Ghost and Water Breathing right off.
Set the Birthsign to the Atronach which gives him a Magicka of 150. Not fantastic but, his Intel. is only 50 right now.

Works pretty well, when his Magicka gets low I cast the Ancestral Ghost, slap it around until it cast a spell which is absorbed restoring the level to maximum , then I soultrap it.

Acquired some Imperial Chain Armor and an Imperial Dragonscale Cuirass which actually looks cool on a lizard.

re: Argonian treasure hunter

The beast races are more challenging, as you have already discovered. My second character was an Argonian, and it was the most challenging character I've ever played with. I wanted a Magic-User character with good combat skills, but I didn't realize how difficult it is to play as Magic-User unless you are playing with a Breton or Altmer. The other races simply don't have a large enough Magicka pool to use spells as the primary combat method, so I ended up using my Spear all of the time. Here is what he looked like:

Class: Argonian Swamp Wizard
Specialization: Magic
Sign: The Mage (Bad mistake--his Magicka maxed out at 188!)

Major Skills
Alchemy
Athletics
Illusion
Mysticism
Unarmored

Minor Skills
Alteration
Destruction
Enchant
Medium Armor
Spear

He got killed early and often, but eventually he became Arch-Mage of the Mages Guild by killing Trebonius. He got the Spear of the Hunter by completing the Bloodmoon MQ, so that became his weapon of choice. He was a challenging character to play, but it was fun and he eventually "retired" to the Black Marsh at Level 69.

re: Argonian treasure hunter

Those are almost exactly the same stats my Argonian started out with except for the different birth sign.
The spear attack really seems slow and ineffective ,can't imagine anyone not being able to block it.

re: Argonian treasure hunter

Yeah, Spear is the weakest of all the weapon types IMO (except Hand-to-Hand). It is the only racial weapon bonus for Argonians, which is why I took it for this character. It is a good way to increase Endurance, but you can always do that by training Medium or Heavy Armor. The only real plus in using a Spear is the longer reach. If you are fighting a creature that uses Hand-to-Hand (like a Corprus Stalker or Ash Zombie) you can keep them far enough away that they can't hit you.

Actually the, Khajjit is a VERY good thief, it's also interesting to know that 1. The best helm in the game is an open helm and 2. The kind of boots you wear can effect your sneaking skill i.e. don't wear a pair of deadric boots when you're trying to steel something.

re: Argonian treasure hunter

Well I've finally made it to lv.10 with the Argonian hunter.
I've been using the spear as his primary weapon. It's been a real challenge because I've been so spoiled with some of my former characters using really good weapons that could get one shot kills.
Now I have to remember to be stealthy and use hit and run much more.
I'm puzzled by the Poison enchantment I have on the spear it doesn't seem to have much effect. When my characters get hit with a poison weapon it continues to effect them until I get a cure poison potion.

I think you need to cast the spears spell.

re: Argonian treasure hunter

It's an Adamantium spear I had enchanted with Poison 3 to 7 pts for 5sec. cast when strike. I see the green cloud effect when I strike with it but, it doesn't seem to do anymore damage than when I used it before the enchantment.

re: Argonian treasure hunter

3 to 7 points is hardly noticeable on level 20+ characters.
