The Original Colossus |
|
Colossi, which are humungous statues, were extremely popular in ancient Greece. I am sure that's where they got the idea for the gigantic beasts that you face in this game. After checking out the screenshots, I knew that they took a page out of history, as I Remember reading about the Colossus of Rhodes back when I was younger. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
[Info] It ended up falling apart, but stood for quite a while before toppling over. This message was edited by Drew Gooden on Sep 08 2005. ------------------- Bye!!!!! ![]() I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

dont forget jason and the argonauts, clash of the titans, and achilles vs the cyclopse in the odessy, and even godzilla for that matter. heros facing down foes who are too huge to be true is not an uncommun theme in mythology, and i think the underlying symbolism is something along the lines of the problems a person faces in life that seem unsurmountable. in the end, a lot of these monters are pretty easily dispatched, like when jason finds the valve on the heel of his colossus that drains all its blood, or in clash of the titans when the use medussas head to turn all the giant monsters to stone, or in the odyssee, when ulysess puts out the cyclops' eye. godzilla would seem to be the exception, but i think thats pry because godzilla (the original japanesse godzilla from the 1950's) was more an analogy for the horrors and looming threat of nuclear war (makes sense the japanese would make that movie before anyone else, all things considered) its good to see a game embrace classical themes like this and work it into such a creative piece. better than another damn final fantasy or teken sequel.
