What do they do?!

I've looked pretty much in every FAQ and guide and elsewhere, but I can't find an answer. Do they not do anything, and are just there to be there? Do they only restore some health, and thats it? What?

Yep, the lizards are there for the sake of being lizards. They don't do any thing, just add atmosphere.

They do add atmosphere, HOWEVER, and maybe you don't mean this, but black lizards with a white tail are special. You kill this white-tailed lizard, then pick up it's tail, and you will recieve more grip meter. Just the same, if you shoot fruit off of trees, and pick them up, you get more health.

It takes quite a while to find fruit and lizards with white tails

If you beat the game, then do the secret idol extras, you can gain maps that show you where to find all the lizards and fruit.

there's always a lizard with a white tail near one of those temple thingies where you can save,

and also if you get to the secret garden beware, the fruits there make you lose life instead of gaining, one person tried to lose enought health so when it got to the end of the game

when you transform into the dormin you die but i don't know if it was succecful and triggered an alternate ending, ill have to check

It was unsuccesful. There is no alternate ending. The director himself said so.
