Names of the Colossi

It appears that many people are referring the the Colossi as their "actual names". Where the heck did you guys find their names?

Well...

1: I didn't see their names on that page.

2: I kind of mean like this.

Hardest? Equus. It's tough to get him to dip his beard to where you are.
Where does Equus come from?

re: Names of the Colossi

Sorry about that confusion I caused! The names come from several different places. I'm fairly certain they first came from a Japanese magazine (maybe Famitusu) calling them the "official Collosus names from the creators of the game". These names appeared on the Sony board for SotC (which I participated in strongly when the game first came out), and became fairly accepted among other boards as well. The names are all Latin names, sloppily translated I might add. Equus, for instance, means horse and refers to the graveyard colossus. (Also, some slang nicknames for the colossi were given either based on their appearances or by what Dormin refers to them as.)

The names are not on wikipedia because most likely the poster of the names could not source the names. I actually had trouble finding the names now too.

And just for you, I found the old thread I posted in the Sony forums. http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=shadowofcolossus&message.id=5419#M5419

And I'll post it here too. (I'm DFarrell)

Here is the order:
number of colossus) improper name - proper name - (Latin name) - translated name
1) The Minotaur - Valus - (Minotaurus Colossus) - The Giant Minotaur

2) Taurus Major - Quadratus - (Taurus Magnus) - Great Bull

3) Earth Knight - Gaius - (Terrestris Veritas) - Earth Truth

4) Equus Prime - Phaedra - (Equus Bellator Apex) - Crown War Horse (or Crowned War Horse)

5) Deata Pheonix - Avion - (Avis Praeda) - Bird of Prey

6) The Goliath - Barba - (Belua Maximus) - Great Monster

7) Sea Dragon - Hydrus - (Draco Marinus) - Sea Dragon

8) Wall Shadow - Kuromori - (Parietinae Umbra) - Given Shadow

9) Storm Echo - Basaran - (Nimbus Recanto) - Storm Echo

10) Sand Tiger - Dirge - (Harena Tigris) - Sand Dragon

11) Flame Guardian - Celosia - (Ignis Excubitor) - Fire Protector

12) Great Basilisk - Pelagia - (Permagnus Pistrix) - Large Fish

13) Trial Drifter - Phalanx - (Aeris Velivolus) - Sail-bound Sky

14) Destruction Luster - Cenobia - (Clades Candor) - Radiant Destruction **

15) The Sentinel - Argus - Praesidium - (Vigilo) - Attentive Guard

16) Grand Gigas - Malus - (Grandis Supernus) - Grand Celestial

**The Latin name for this colossus is actually wrong. The improper name, and the name given by Dormin is Destruction Luster: one who lusts for destruction. Whomever translated this name thought luster to mean the luster of a diamond or metal (the variability of being shiny). Thats why the Latin name is Radiant Destruction (radiant being a synonym or derivative word of luster).

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Some one told me that there are English official names on "The official site". There are 3 official sites, a NA, an international, and the Japanese. I did not find the names on the NA or the international, perhaps they are in the Japanese? I certainly can't speak Japanese.

NA - http://www.us.playstation.com/Content/OGS/SCUS-97472/Site/
PAL - http://www.shadowofthecolossus.com/
Jap - http://www.jp.playstation.com/scej/title/wander/

I'm still trying to figure out why number 11 is the Guardian of the Flame. He's afraid of fire, how does he protect something he's afraid of? If he gets near it, he freaks out and moves away from it.

A damn it. I just looked on the whole page and found out that the list of names was removed. Sorry bout that. A while back there was a large graph showing all of there names as well as the Latin ones.

They were unsourced, and Wiki is strict about that. Especially, for a popular game.

re: Names of the Colossi

Aha. So that'd be it. Wonder if they'll be put back up. They obviously have a source, no reason why they can't be put back up now, is there?

re: Names of the Colossi

Well, even I can't find the original source. It was some Jap magaazine or something. Someone also said it was on "the website" but I can't find it on the NA or PAL website. Plus, the names are showing up everywhere with slight variations and stuff, so who knows what the real one is eh?
