i'm near the end of the game and have to save archie from the 3 flames after jumping across the pillars..IF i cross the pillars i can't get it timed to shoot and move then shoot and move for the third time and archie always dies. is there a trick to this area. thanks for anyones help in advance

Yes there is a trick, but it does take a few attempts, there is no need to jump on every single pillar. you can make it in 3!! this gains you about 2-3 extra seconds of time.. doesn't sound much but wow it helps!!
I spent many an hour on this one too..
