DOA vs. Tekken |
|
I got this idea mainly form the "Deception vs. DOA" thread, but also because if you've invested any amount of time in the "Tekken" series, you may notice that DOA seems to heavily borrow from Tekken in terms of the gameplay engine. Specifically what I mean most is the fighting style-all physical, no special moves (like fireballs, projectiles, Super Moves, etc.) and also characters-most notably Hitomi, Ayane, & Jann Lee. Hitomi almost rips off Tekken's Paul, Jann Lee is like Law (himself a Bruce Lee imitation) and Ayane's like Nina & Anna. And Tengu perhaps is reminiscent of Ogre from Tekken Tag Tournament. ------------------- ![]() The Best Thing To Happen To MMA Since, Well, MMA

Yea, your right. Tekken and DOA do share a lot in common, although many people concider the Tekken engine to be much deeper than DOA's. Tekken is alright, I still prefer DOA though. ------------------- ![]() "Can You And I Be Truthful Now, Whatcha Running Away From" - ADEMA

Yeah-even though Hitomi's a girl the styles are too simailar-the one punch move she has where she rears back then delivers a hard punch forward is almost exactly like Paul's similar move in Tekken, which is where I draw the biggest comparison from. Additionally they both have a real sense of cockiness in their attitude, namely in the victory poses. Ayane's similarity seems to mostly be in attitude/personality, given both her & the Williams sisters technically are assassins. ------------------- ![]() The Best Thing To Happen To MMA Since, Well, MMA

The hand to hand combat and combos etc are so much better and technical on Tekken but lets be honest, no-one can say the character designs arn't better on DOA ultimate. ------------------- ![]()

I have to admit I enjoy Tekken games more than I do with DOA. I still like DOA games though. ------------------- ![]()

I prefer DOA, although I do get frusterated at times with it. It's way too button-masher friendly. It gets very annoying very quickly when some random person picks up a Xbox controller for the first time and looks like a pro. ------------------- ![]() "Can You And I Be Truthful Now, Whatcha Running Away From" - ADEMA

I'm going to go with DOA, hands down. The fighting in DOA may be simple, but it just feels more fluid than any other fighter I've played. And yes, I love the character designs. I honestly can't say I see any similarities between the two games. I'm not bashing Tekken either. I still like Tekken, but just not quite as much. Both great games. ------------------- Animal Crossing: Wild World: 3308-0778-1452 Jump Ultimate Stars: 4596-5679-2145 Mario Kart DS: 2921-2520-8818 Metroid Prime: Hunters: 5026-0639-2134 Add me!

It's great that they offer us the variety of characters through different games and im glad they have made a fighter in almost all fighting games who represents or mimics Bruce Lee and his Jeet kun do fighting style, it's a contribute in the memory of him. ------------------- ![]()

Another comparision in characters I just thought of: Bruce, who appeared in most Tekkens except 1, is a lot like DOA's Zack with regards to looks& fighting style (both favor the Muay Thai style of kickboxing). ------------------- ![]() The Best Thing To Happen To MMA Since, Well, MMA

Tekkens is more realistic in the sense that after a 3rd hit you're not going to launch the person across the screen like they've been hit by a rocket launcher. ------------------- ![]()

quote Otacon MGSBut then again Dead or Alive is more realistic because it the characters aren't fighting pandas or half tiger, It a way tekken was ment to be a realistic but having character like this doesn't make that. I prefer Dead or Alive, i seem to play and enjoy it more. Personally i think the graphics are slightly better on DOA and the game has more colour to it. ------------------- ![]() Myspace Profile

re: DOA vs. Tekken |

The graphics almost seem to be the same on both games, and have been since the beginning: The first few titles in each series (DOA 1 & 2, Tekken 1-3 & Tag Tournament) both had largely boxy characters with some rough edges, but in DOA3 & Tekken 4 the graphics were sharply improved and the characters looked much more realistic. This of course is largely due to the programming and limitations being much different back then compared to what they are now. ------------------- ![]() The Best Thing To Happen To MMA Since, Well, MMA
