I got RE:CVX, and thought it was pretty good. I've heard the horror has been sucked out of resident evil in RE4 and RE5, but I'd like to know if the series is any good. I play RE0 for the GC, and that was good.

Should I further indulge in the series, or leave it be?

I don't mean to be rude, but you really are not proving any points... Why would I even care about your stats? Does that somehow affect video game popularity?

I recommend RE4 if you like third person shooters. It's more of an action game than the other ones you played. The enemies group up on you more and they're much faster than in previous games, and you also get much more ammo. It's less about the suspense and more about blowing everything away before it rips your face off.

Oh, and I guess I should probably mention that the story of RE4 has practically nothing to do with the other games. Not sure if you care though.

Well, from what I've gathered, the main character of RE4 is Leon S. Kennedy (From RE2 and Resident Evil: Degeneration, which I watched).

So it has the slightest bit to do with the main storyline. The slightest.
