In the room with the Novistador nest (when one of them takes Ashley away) theres a dead easy way to take them out without getting hurt. As soon as the battle starts, run out of the door leading to the corridor where you first jumped out of the window to get the lamp etc, (so you are backtracking) and the novistadors will follow you and open the door themselves. As soon as the door opens and you have one in your sights, blow it away. Quite often you can kick them too as they are in a confined space now instead of coming at you from all over the place.

ive completed this game countless times (from scratch and upgraded) and i've never gone through it not having been killed..

the points where i frequently killed is the rock falling sequence (running away from it..i'm just too *bleep*ing slow for it!), the krauser interactive cutscene and the 'final round' with krauser (with the mutated arm).

Yeah, its the Krauser Knife Fight Cutscene that gets me, and a hell of a lot of other people...it's so *bllep*ing frustrating

lol if you have a good reaction time you are fine... keep your eyes open and don't be hasty.

Exactly, (this is gonna sound so predictable) but trust your instincts, and time your dodges and slashes...you shouldn't even get touched if you do it right...and Krauser shouldn't be a problem in neither Main game or Separate Ways

I never died on my first run through. Ashley, though, that's another story. I like to use her as bait, but some people don't try and pick her up - like Iron Maidens.
I learnt the hard way.

i hate the knife fight too, especially the part right at the end where you have to hold Krauser back. it took me three goes on my first run through, but the second time i did the whole game without dying in professional mode. i know i play it too much, don't i?

ive died only once and that was on my first go through and that was with krauser's stupid knife fight GOD I HATE THAT but i finnaly got the hang of it

The knife fight with Krauser was the most annoying part, easy enough now, I find holding the L1 and square button while waiting for the next sequence to appear makes it easier, then you only have to press 1 button to pass the sequence. I took up a challenge from one of the forums, the run was this:

No yellow herbs, no deaths, 100% accuracy every chapter (plus a few others- I forgot now). Didn't die at all from beginning to end. Guess I need a harder challenge.

That dang knife fight gets me every other time I beat that game like once I get buy without dying easy but not on my second play through it really annoys me
