Iam not sure how many of you have heard this but Prof' Nutt was sacked because he claimed that alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than a majority of illegal drugs such as cannabis, Ecstasy and LSD.

I would like to know:

1) The opinion you guys have on the current drug classification system.

2) Do you think he should of been sacked? After all everyone is entitled to the right of free speech.

Oh, I read about this during the past week. The only reason he was sacked was because he was giving the public information which the government disagreed with. By him telling the media that cannabis should be class C, he's telling them it's not as dangerous as most people think and there shouldn't be a taboo around it and this is the exact opposite of what the government are trying to force onto people.

Current classification system is just there to justify the government's reasons for making certain drugs illegal. Of course, in some instances they're spot on i.e. heroin but with cannabis, they're trying to make it out to be something it's not.

True, but when you are employed by the government and then decide to make known information that kinda makes them out to look silly, then they can sack you if they want (although they will probably have to have a better excuse - i think theirs this time was that they had lost faith in his judgment or something).

Legalising weed would just be silly, it's one of those things people like to claim they're really behind without having any idea of the implications.

The direct stats are all well and good but it's a gateway drug.
