BloodRayne Movie |
|
It's been posted on the official BloodRayne site that a movie is in the works.
Behold Kagan's lair: Concept art (10/01/03) HNR has learned that the video game adaptation "BloodRayne" set to be directed and produced by the dynamic duo Dr. Uwe Boll and Shawn Williamson respectively (like they previously did on House Of The Dead and Alone In The Dark) is set to start filming March 2004 in Vancouver. Boll had this to say last month about the project "We think BloodRayne is a dynamic, compelling anti-hero and a contemporary, smart standard bearer for the genre. We look forward to bringing her--and the game--to life on film." BloodRayne features the sexy, supernatural, huntress BloodRayne, an unholy breed of human and vampire. An explosive force with gymnastic dexterity and an intense lust for blood and action, BloodRayne was raised and trained by a secret agency to hunt down and eliminate supernatural threats around the globe. The budget of the movie is said to be in the $30 million range which will be the largest yet for Boll KG and Brightlight Pictures. Press Releases: (03/03/04) (Vancouver, BC) – American Psycho (2002) co-writer Guinevere Turner's most recent work in progress is the horror/action screenplay "BloodRayne" scheduled to shoot in the Greater Vancouver area and Eastern Europe in late summer of 2004. The $15 Million US feature film titled "BloodRayne" is an adaptation of a video game. The title character is a huntress, part-human and part-vampire. An explosive force with gymnastic dexterity and an intense lust for blood and action, "BloodRayne" was raised and trained by a secret agency to hunt down and eliminate supernatural threats around the globe. Guinevere Turner, who is represented by Glenn Rigberg, of Rigberg-Rugolo Entertainment in Los Angeles, CA, is most recognized for co-writing the screenplay for the 2002 thriller "American Psycho" (Christian Bale, Reese Witherspoon). She also co-wrote, produced, and starred in the art house hit "Go Fish" (1994). Turner has also appeared in well-known independent films such as "Pipe Dream" (2002), "Dogma" (1999), "Treasure Island" (1999), and "Chasing Amy" (1997). Turner adds "I'm thrilled at the opportunity to bring this character to the big screen - she's hot, she's pissed off, she has special powers - what's not to love?" Shawn Williamson, principal and producer of Brightlight Pictures, the Vancouver-based film production company, will be collaborating with German Director Uwe Boll to mark "BloodRayne" as the sixth co-production between the two companies. "Through past projects with Uwe Boll, we have found that our two companies share a similar vision. This sharing of vision is vital in order to effectively bring an adaptation of a video game to the big screen. And what such a great talent like Guinevere Turner to adapt the script for "BloodRayne", we do anticipate quite the production." Brightlight Pictures, a feature film and television production company based in Vancouver and Victoria, BC, develops, finances and produces independent feature films and television projects for the domestic and international marketplace. Company principals and producers, Stephen Hegyes and Shawn Williamson, have produced over 50 productions in the last 10 years, including Bruce Sweeney's "Last Wedding" which opened the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival and starred Molly Parker, and is currently shooting "The Long Weekend" a Canada / UK co-production between Brightlight Pictures and Gold Circle Films UK starring Chris Klein and Brendan Fehr. With $78 US million dollars in production funds raised in the past two years, Boll KG is a fast-growing film production entity based in Frankfurt, Germany under the aegis of Dr. Uwe Boll. With this recent acquisition, Boll has emerged as a pre-eminent director and producer of films based on video games. Artisan Entertainment released "House of the Dead", based on the Sega franchise, in Fall 2003; Boll is in post-production on a film adaptation of Atari's "Alone in the Dark" (Christian Slater, Tara Reid and Stephen Dorff) in Vancouver, BC. I think that this a good idea. It may turn out to be a good movie, unlike some other game-to-movie ideas (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). When the movie comes out in 2005, I think I will go see it.

So I hear the Christina Loken is playing Rayne. Though I loved her in Terminator 3, I'm not sure she can pull it off. Frankly, I think Kate Beckinsale would have been a wiser choice. What do you all think?

I've seen the trailer and from the looks of it the movie doesn't look like it'll be very good. I guess it's too soon to speculate so I'll just have to wait and see.
I wonder why they decided to leave the 1930's time period of the first BloodRayne game and set the movie in some hyper-unrealistic Mideval setting. I have to say that I kind of like the actress they have playing Rayne. Hopefully she'll play Rayne completely different from her animated counterpart and give her more depth. I really don't want to see a movie about a bloodsucking sex-pot...it's okay for a video game though.

When is this movie coming out again? I haven't heard anything about it since I last posted here. There is a trailer of the movie featured on the game disk; which sucks by the way. The trailer reveals no real plot.

Does anyone know who Uwe Boll is? Apperently he's the director of the BR movie and several other movies based on video games. Many fans of video games hate his work and claim that he finances his films just to make money from them instead of actually putting effort into them. According to some people, the BR movie will suck, and is probably Boll's worst film yet.
How's that for hope that this movie will rock?
