For all the new members and unregistered guests who are wondering, "What the heck do I do?!", here are some helpful guidelines to answer some of the more frequently asked questions about navigating Neoseeker.
REGISTERING: If you're still a guest, or an "unwashed heathen", be sure to sign up and get yourself a screen-name here on Neoseeker. It's absolutely FREE! Registered members have more privileges than guests, and can earn the right to be moderators. Here is a link to the Neoseeker Registration Page. Follow the prompts and you'll be signed up in no time! PROFILE PICTURES: Many new members often wonder how to get those little pictures under their screen-name or at the bottom of all their posts. The profile mini-pics are called AVATARS and the longer pics at the bottom of posts are called BANNERS. Here's a step by step guide on how to get yourself some of these: Avatars 1. First, find a picture on the internet that you'd like to use for your avatar. SAVE that picture in your desktop picture folders. Go into your picture folder, then right click and OPEN the picture up into your Paint or PhotoShop program. Arrange the picture or picture section you're cutting out so that it's exactly 65 X 65 pixels (Neoseeker's avatar requirement size). This can usually be done by adjusting the ATTRIBUTES under the IMAGE menu. When you're finished editing your picture, SAVE it again as a different file. 2. Once you're a member, go to the top left section of the webpage where it says Prefs, Profile, Log Out and My Neoforum. Click on PROFILE. Under the BIOGRAPHY/INTERESTS section, there will be a link that says EDIT BIO/PHOTO. Click on that. At the bottom of that page there will be a BROWSE engine next to PROFILE PHOTO. Hit that, then select your avatar picture from your desktop folder. After that, choose FINISH. 3. You may have to wait a few minutes for the avatar to start showing up on your profile, so be patient. When it's been registered as your profile pic, it will then show up on every message you post. You can change it as often as you like. Banners 1. Banners are a little different. You can either make one of your own like an avatar, or find one on the internet. Either way, you'll need a website address or HOST website for it. To link an image directly onto a thread post; simply copy the image's web address from the host site, or from the Properties menu when you right click on the image itself. Then, post that in between to have the picture show up. You do the same thing with your banner by going into the Edit Signature feature located under your Profile Options. NEOFORUM, NEOMAIL, PRIVATE MESSAGES When you first get registered to Neoseeker, you get something called My.Neoforum, found at the top left of the webpage. This is your own personal section with mail options and forum-watching abilities. Mail and Private Messages (PM) The PM system is much like an instant message/e-mail system. It's your own private Neoseeker mailbox. When you have new messages waiting, a BLINKING YELLOW ICON will appear next to My.Neoforum. Click on the link and check your INBOX. To avoid spamming discussion boards, it's recommended that the PM system is used for private conversations, questions and such. Favorite Forums At the bottom of any discussion board in little letters will be a section with Add Favourite Forums, Forum Participants, Stats and Moderation Queue. If you want a quick shortcut to the discussion boards you visit the most, then click on ADD FAVOURITE FORUMS when you're on the discussion board you want. Now, when you go to My.Neoforum, there will be a section in the middle with quick links to all the forums you added this way.
