Vista 64 Bit - Gaming Problems?

I've heard that Vista 64 Bit causes problems in some games, mostly in some of the older (but still popular) games like Counterstrike: Source. It's also rumored that it isn't very backwards compatible. Any information would be helpful.

re: Vista 64 Bit - Gaming Problems?

I've been running windows vista since the Beta 1 stage, and I never had a compatibility problem relating to vista or it being 64bit.

Vista is pretty backwards compatible too. If you need to, you can set the program to run in compatibility mode for windows xp SP2.

I've never played counter strike on here, but I'm sure you wont have any problems with it.

I'm planning on getting a laptop, preferrably with 2gb Ram, over 150gb HD and possible more than 1.66 Ghz.
Never the less, Any and All laptops available are already installed with Vista. Does this cause a problem, since as I get this Laptop, I will most likely be getting PC Gamers for it, a main choice being Half Life 2. Would it be compatible?

re: Vista 64 Bit - Gaming Problems?

Hi,

As far as i know, there are no compatibility problems in vista. And it is the reverse of what u said. Vista is backward compatible. I use Vista and counter strike works perfectly. In fact Vista uses DirectX10 which makes almost any game to be splendid in performance.

re: Vista 64 Bit - Gaming Problems?

nvidia drivers in vista 64bit suck. me and a friend just built a kickass gaming rig

q9450, 2 250gb 7200.10s in raid 0, vista home prem 64bit, two 8800gts g92 512mb in SLI(he has 30 inch dell monitor) 4gb ddr1066 ram, etc etc. Its pretty badass. however, any driver we tried for nvidia would give us a blue screen at some point. crysis dx10 64bit doesnt always open, when it does, it looks AMAZING but it sometimes crashes, driver issues. also it would crash randomly however, after trying 4 sets of drivers(i forget which we are using now) we found the most stable. it crahsed a few times at first, but as of now its crash free for about two days. crysis is still giving us issues with opening, but cod4 looks AMAZING. when crysis opens it is SICK, and it appears to be working with no issues.
