I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not but anyways--
My birthday is in 4 days and my dad is going to buy me a new PC for about 500-600 bucks (and maybe an HDTV and other electronics) We're buying online from best buy and I've narrowed my options down to 2 different laptops (I'm not interested in a desktop) The Asus Laptop with Intel® Pentium® Processor and HP Pavilion Laptop with AMD Turion™ II Dual-Core Mobile Processor I've done my part and decided that the HP is probably better, but I'd like to get a few of your opinions Here are the specs for the Asus laptop And here are the specs for the HP laptop This will probably be my laptop for the next few years so I really want to be sure I get the laptop that will serve me better. ------------------- ~ zeph OH MY GOD, THERES CRYSTAL METH...

I think option too would be best if you don't mind the smaller screen and lower resolution. Option 2 is faster and has a better video card if you're into pc gaming.

I'm not really a PC gamer to be honest. But I'm not ruling it out.
I also prefer the HP laptop resolution as it's a little bit more common. Also, to be honest, I'm not very tech savvy, but if I'm not mistaken, the screen size/resolution of the Asus would be much crisper would it not ? | |

Here are my needs
- At least 300GB for music/video - At Least 2-3GB of ram - Fast processing - Good for making and producing video - Good for possible graphic work Don't forget though, I'm not ruling out PC gaming. It just depends on how good of a gaming machine it is. | |

Option 2 has a better graphics card and amd cpu is better.
The screen probably ain't good for video/picture editing though. | |

K, thanks so far but I have one more thought
My 3 major uses for it will probably be - Making you tube videos (using built in web cam and cam studio) - Possibly making graphics with gimp (major maybe) - Organizing a large library of music Which one (the Asus or the HP), would truly accommodate my uses ? Keep in mind, my current PC is also 1280x800, and I really didn't have any problems with using it for videos and graphics. | |

I would also go with the second one. 1280x800 is plenty big for video and graphics work.

Well, thanks for the help, the HP it is.
Besides, if the screen really becomes an issue I can just plug the laptop up to an external monitor and the problem is solved. | |

ASUS laptops overall have a lot better customer satisfaction when it comes to the build of the laptop and technical/customer support, just so you know.
I think either will suit your needs just fine. -------------------
