Did you try using a different port? (like, just to test, the one your mouse/keyboard uses, unless you use PS/2) ------------------- Something.

I'm assuming you have gotten different brands of drives each time you get a new one? If not, definitely try that. ------------------- Windows XP Home 32-bit 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo 3GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 8600M 256MB

I get this error sometimes when I'm using a hub for the thumb drive. In my case it's usually not enough power getting to the thumb drive for some reason. I usually use a different port or unplug the hub and use the port it's using. -------------------

quote Master of the VGI'm thinking that's what it is. I had to setup my motherboard myself without the manual, so chances are that i screwed up the front USB ports. The only place i would think they would plug into are two spots labeled "JUSB1" and "JUSB2". Their pin setup is like this: ..... .... The plugs leading from the USB ports on the front have a set of three holes together in one plastic piece [...] and one single hole that's not connected to the other three [.]. I plugged them in by placing the single hole on the far left and the three-hole-piece to the right of it, so the entire bottom row is filled. This seems to be partially right, because the port is somewhat functional (functional enough to notice that there's something plugged in and tell me that it won't work). I've tried just about every other combination i can think of and the only result is that the computer doesn't see the drive at all. I have a MSI K8N Neo MS1070 mobo. Here's a diagram for the USB plugs in the motherboard. I believe that the cables that are separate from the others are the grounds. ![]() You should also install the USB drivers on your motherboard's install disk if you still have it. It probably isn't necessary, but it could help. BTW, do other USB devices work in the ports? -------------------

I've: The USB plugs from my case should be a large single plastic piece of 9 pins (with one empty slot). But instead both USB ports have only 4 pins; red, green, white, and black (separate from the other three). ------------------- ![]()

Now the question has moved to where can i find some new USB ports to replace these cheap ones? They just screw in to the front of the case... i'm sure i could cram in replacement ones. ------------------- ![]()

you could try to harvest an $11 case or something...as fas as individual ports being sold, i have never heard of that. They'd probably cost around $11 anyways so i say buy a cheap ass case with front usb ports and rape it for parts.

Now i'm just baffled. I've tried this data stick on three more computers and still no result. I was under the impression that plugging a data stick into a USB port would initiate Windows to recognize and install drivers for it, making it usable and it would show up under My Computer. This doesn't seem to be the case for me, as absolutely nothing happens. At least on my PC i would get the "Device not recognized or is corrupt" message, but i get nothing on any other PC. Am i missing something here? ------------------- ![]()
