I've been stuck on the Gypceros for a long time, and I still can't beat him. I've got full Kut-Ku armor with Ioprey Greaves and Gauntlets, and I'm using a Cyclo-Hammer+. I head out with 3 Lg. Barrel Bombs and 2 Large Barrels, 2 Gunpowder, a Pitfall Trap, Net and Trap Tool, and a couple of Well-Dones. I grab the two Sm. Barrel Bombs(among other things) from the stash and go. I set up the Pitfalls when he's landing, and set up two Larges and one Small Barrel Bomb while he's stuck. I usually dodge his poison spit, the attacks that really get me are the tail swing and the mega-flash-thing. Yeah, I know to aim for his Lightcrystal, but it's kind of hard to do that with a hammer. If he leaves Zone 2, I just wait for him to come back, unless he starts resting, and even then, I don't stick around to screw with the Bullfango. I just wake him up and leave, he usually follows me back to Z2.

Should I upgrade my weapon, or is it my tactics that are wrong?

your tactics aren't wrong only just upgrade your cyclo plus to a atlas hammer and also when his eyes are red use a pitfall trap.

Since your are hammering, i suggest not aiming for the crystal. hammers aren't the best weapon for that job, go for the tail that's it's weakspot. or you can just super pound it's legs over and over to topple it over.

other than that i don't see anything wrong with what you're currently doing

If the poison is getting you then you should consider switching to full Ioprey since it gives you poison negation. I also recommend clearing as many Bullfange as possible so you can fight it without worry.

Thanks for the tips everyone, I beat him just a few minutes ago.(FINALLY!) I just had to upgrade my hammer. Now, onto the Rathalos...

hey for rathalos you should use great swords so you can cut his tail off which you can carve also his head is a weak spot which makes him dizzy sometimes you can cut off face plate and wing claws im not sure if hammers could reach tail.

yes but if u smash his head with the hammer... it owns. just... smashing rath head with hammer is so hard.
make sure u take these items for best effect with the hammer:
3 Lg. Barrel Bombs
6(or more) Lg. Barrels
6(or more) gunpowder~~~~ use those to for combo during the fight.
have your trap ready.
2 trap tools.
3~~~~3 nets. theres an extra trap tool in your supply box
there should also be another bomb and a couple smalls.
bring 10 small bombs of your own.
about 4 steaks
5-6 paintballs
PSYCHOSERUM (do not forget this) tracks the wyvern down for you on the map for about 5-8 seconds only use it if u have trouble spotting it after paintball wears off.. dont use it at the start of fight... he is in ZONE 3.
bring 5 flash bombs.
5 (or more) Bomb materials
5(or more) Flashbugs
use those after u completely run outta flash bombs... this way you can continually flash the rath and lay waste to his HP while he twists and turns.
bring 10 mega potions ( made from potions and honey)
bring 10 potions
bring 10 herbs(if you wnt to )
if i were you i would try to use all the chest items first but you will be short on space at first so use the rations and grab the first aids


some tips are to keep the rath out of the zone where the melynx's are.... hey are annoying plus the zone is rough to fight in.
clear out any velociprey u can at the start as long as it isnt the respawning ones.
When you first encounter the rath in zone 3 DO NOT ENGAGE. run to your right and move the heck out of his way once he notices you.... or if he fails to see you. RUN up to him and Paintball him before he flies away which he does very quickly and you will find yourelf running in circles looking for him.
Dont let your HP get under half.... he has annoying charge or swing moves that inevtiably push you into a corner and then he pins you down til you die. keeping your HP above 50% is best. so ive learned
head is weaker spot aim for the head.
be careful when he limps. he will be hurt and fly away but when u find him agaian he is sure to put up another fight until you finish him so dont be suprised if you beat him down to a pulp and then you find out that he is still kicking.... keep that hp above 50%
if you have to... run back to the base camp and sleep your HP to full. ive done it several times where ive screwed up and so i went to sleep and basically started over... no harm done.

man rathalos use to kill me sooooo many times when he was limping cause i started slacking off and once i ran outta time but now only takes me 10-15 minutes yay
