Has anyone got Ellen as a playable character? Supposedly if you defeat the enemey ace Albert with Ken, everytime that you encounter him, you'll get Ellen.

Its on the hint section at Gamespot as well as other sites.

That would be tough to do on that WIND VALLEY mission.

That big thing at the end of the canyon rips you to pieces if you fly in front of it, and the space at the end isnt all that big to try to dogfight a couple of aces in. Ill have to try it though.


Personally after it was over, I was hoping that some missions would be available using the OCC side, and their pilots, going against the EDAF. But I guess it wasnt to be.

Yes you can unlock the Ellen character and she
becomes apart of the EDAF.Her aircraft is the
Tornado F.3 and I unlocked her last night.

Play the game from the start to the end using
Ken,with the exceptions of those missions that
you need to use Jamie,Rick,Alex,Holst and Brian.
You will unlock here just before you begin the
space missions.

Is it just using ken, or do you in fact have to take Albert down every mission you see him as well?

I know I've heard that you needed to but I didn't
take Ken on every mission Albert was on and still
ended up getting Ellen and her TND-F.3 unlocked.

You only gotta take Albert down when he is a Mission Target.. (passing that hes not a mission target on Wing Valley still take him down)

So wait ... what unlocks it ... flying as Ken only, shooting down Albert with Ken only, or just always shooting down Albert?

Ruth's HiMAT is normally my choice for Wind Valley since it's slow enough for the OCC pilots to actually fly past you ... I don't dogfight, I just use the HM-AAMs to knock down Ellen and Albert when they fly over.

I haven't unlocked Ellen yet. I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. Supposedly,some of Ellen's planes are the J-10 and LFI-2000:





Wind Valley is just plain frustrating. It destroys the fun of the game.

I played AFDS all the way through with Ken only (including on STANDBY missions) and killed Albert on every single mission including Navarone Campaign's Wind Valley and the Meteor mission and still Ellen did not unlock ... I don't think it's just flying as Ken or flying as Ken and shooting Albert down ... I've killed so many aces already they've awarded me the medal for killing aces.

Is there ever going to be a strategy guide or a walkthrough for this game?

By the way, just as a note, there's a trick to defeating Wind Valley, and although it seems intimidating at first, it's actually very easy to blow through. Albert is easy to nail in that one because he can't pull up above the canyon, which means he is very susceptible to LR-AAM, HM-AAM, and ML-AAM, etc.

Since I was led to believe that flying Ken only was the key to success, this time around I used the S-55 LFS Mini Flanker in Wind Valley. Ordinarily I'd use Ruth's HiMAT but of course that wasn't an option since I wanted to try and unlock Ellen.

The wind blowing machines can actually work to your advantage, but you have to use a small, compact, and manueverable aircraft in there, otherwise you'll be pushed into the wall. The smaller aircraft tend to be more forgiving. I've personally found the following aircraft to work optimally in Wind Valley:

Ken: S-55 LFS
Ruth: HiMAT
John: X-31 EFM
Jaime: P-38 Lightning

The S-55, HiMAT, and X-31 are particularly good since they all have the HM-AAM and both Ellen and Albert and the rest of the 8th E.A.D. are just as susceptible to fire as you are. The P-38 is somewhat crummy however at engaging the aircraft for obvious reasons. If I had to guess (although I haven't tried it yet) I would think that Brian's A-4 Skyhawk would probably perform well in there, but again, you have the limitations of engaging Albert and his buddies in such a short time.

In the wind mission you can destroy the cyclope

and after just turn in this hole to wait for albert and Ellen

Yeah you can destroy the air defense windmill, but it would not be advisable to do using guns or standard missiles unless you really know what you're doing ... you'll get caught up in the vortex and then its adios muchachos. The best way to destroy that thing is to have an aircraft equipped with either rockets so you can kill it from a stand-off range, lasers and/or ripple, or multi-lock air to ground missiles ... but the trade-off of course is you don't get HM-AAMs in that case and then it becomes complicated shooting the other guys down. Time seems to be of essence in that mission.

Well I found some Gameshark codes that give Ken 39000 aces shot down,39000 ground targets destroyed,39000 aircraft destroyed and 39000 other aircraft destroyed. Still no Ellen.

It says that you're suppose to shoot down Albert with Ken, but what about Ellen: are you suppose to shoot her down each time too or leave her alone and never shoot her down no matter what??? I played through the game five times already and still no Ellen...

Never mind, I unlocked her and finished a secret final mission ... and unlocked a bonus plane called Poly plus I made enough money to buy all of Ellen's planes and upgrades for 'em. Peace...

Can Ellen or Ellen's aircraft be used in a cleared game.
