Capcom Brings Together The Ultimate Mega Man Anthology In Mega Man Mania And Mega Man Anniversary Collection
Capcom takes players on a retrospective journey through the evolution of their renowned blue action hero with the announcement of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the Nintendo GameCube and Mega Man Mania for the Game Boy Advance. The Mega Man Anniversary Collection is an anthology of classic Mega Man games (Mega Man 1 through Mega Man 8) from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System and arcade systems. This set will also include two never-before-released-in-the-US Mega Man arcade games: Mega Man the Power Battle and Mega Man 2 the Power Fighters. Mega Man Anniversary Collection and Mega Man Mania are scheduled to be released throughout North American in spring 2004. The ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) rating is pending.
"Mega Man Mania and the Mega Man Anniversary Collection pays tribute to the brainchild behind this multimillion unit selling franchise, Keiji Inafune, and the original games that he created," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing, Capcom Entertainment. "It gives gamers, who have not experienced the Mega Man phenomenon, an opportunity to play the titles that redefined the platform genre."
In the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, players will be challenged to see if they have the skills to master some of the most extreme Mega Man titles ever released and to unlock a cache of bonus features that includes producer interviews and a history of the series. Both Mega Man Mania and the Mega Man Anniversary Collection provide a comprehensive look at Mega Man's progression through the years, as this near human robot embarked on his journey to become one of the longest running videogame icons to date. Take a trip down memory lane, reliving Mega Man's numerous quests to defeat Dr. Wily and his attempts to control the world and its resources. Gamers will reacquaint themselves with pastadversaries such as Metal Man, Gemini Man, Pharaoh Man, Centaur Man, and Tengu Man, just to name a few. Baten Kaitos coming to U.S!
|
Hopes like me and Phantasy Lord can breather easy and party like hell, as this was announced a couple days ago.
quoteBaten Kaitos is expected to see a release in the USA sometime later this year! Click inside for more details!
The much-lauded and critically acclaimed Namco RPG “Baten Kaitos” looks likely to be released in the United States before the end of this year.
This is excellent news for those non-Japanese speakers out there, as this title is well worth importing. No news of a European release to tag alongside with the English-translated version of the game, but now we all have another reason to dust off our freeloaders and get involved in some solid gaming!
For those of you who do speak Japanese, this is no great news, but could you answer one question for me: Honto no kohi desu?
More news as we have it.

PoP Sequel in the works, Splinter Cell Delayed...
|
quoteNews: PoP 2 In The Works By Iun - Feb 4th 2004 12:35 -------------------------------------
Ubisoft have announced a sequel to Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time.
Following on from yesterdays exciting sales figures news, Ubisoft have said that a sequel to last years foolishly temporarily Playstation 2 exclusive Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, is already in the works.
Possibly to be called Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Castle (hint: definitely not), there is little news regarding the new title, save for a few enigmatic words from Yves Guillemot, head of Ubisoft:
"Today, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a resounding success for our group. A sequel to this hit is already being planned with an improved marketing positioning."
A success it was indeed, selling close to 2 million units since release. However, this is no thanks to the Playstation 2 exclusivity deal that ran for a few months as Prince Of Persia's stablemate "Beyond Good And Evil" received a cold reception from Playstation 2 owners despite critical acclaim. We can perhaps assume that "improved marketing positioning" means that no such exclusivity deals will be brokered for the next iteration of the franchise.
No news as to which consoles will see the sequel -or even whether it will make it to this generation of hardware or not. However, the original has yet to be released on the Gamecube.
Check out our special Prince Of Persia week coming soon to Cube-Europe!
Source: Cube-Europe.comquoteNews: Pandora Won't Be Here Tomorrow By Ben - Feb 4th 2004 18:38 ----------------------------------------------
Ubisoft have announced some bad news for GameCube-owning Splinter Cell fans, as it seems the sequel to the highly-rated sneak-‘em-up won’t be landing on a GameCube anytime soon. Click on.
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Ubisoft's highly-anticipated sequel to their critically acclaimed stealth-filled action title Splinter Cell, will be landing down on European shores in March- but only on the Xbox, Game Boy Advance and PC platforms. Today, the company revealed that their development teams working on the project want more time to work on the PlayStation and GameCube iterations of the title. Unfortunately, this means there is no specified date for the release of the game on the aforementioned consoles- which is bad news indeed.
However, it's not all bad news- this means the GameCube version will be tuned "to the max"- and we can look forward to a highly-enjoyable experience. To heighten your anticipation- Ubisoft have released a new trailer- which shows off the frankly stunning online multiplayer mode.

Release Dates, Miyamoto Interview, Four Swords Single Player
|
quoteNews: Metroid Prime 2, GEIST and Pokémon Releases By Ash - Feb 8th 2004 00:44 -------------------------------------------
Official Nintendo Magazine have announced that Metroid Prime 2, GEIST, Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green will all be released this year in Europe!
Nintendo Official Magazine's new issue has some good news about highly anticipated games.
While release dates were not announced they did state that Metroid Prime 2, GEIST, Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green will all be released in Europe before the end of the year.
They also stated that Nintendo of France did send some Christmas cards to French retailers telling them that Animal Crossing will be out this year in France as well.
They also interviewed Miyamoto about a variety of topics, which can be found below.
NOMUK - What can you tell us about the successor to the Gamecube?
Miyamoto - We are currently developing the machinethat can realise a number of brand new and enjoyable ideas. But I'm sorry that I can't dwell on the details today.
NOM UK - Why are you hiding Mario 128 from the public?
Miyamoto - I'm sorry that I have been unable to talk much about that title. With Mario 128 I have been challenging many unprecedented things, not found in existing video games. These new ideas are prone to lose their freshness or to be imitated once they go public, so we must be extremely careful when we discuss such things. I have been feeling the pressure that I have to complete this project. Would you please be patient?
NOM UK - Have you got any new characters and franchises up your sleeve or will you continue to work with the established ones?
Miyamoto - I would like to expand the Pikmin concept, but I would also love to collaborate with other new designers in order to create new characters.
NOM UK - Is there going to be another Zelda game on Gamecube? Perhaps a side story like Majora's Mask?
Miyamoto - In 2004 you will see a variety of activities regarding the Legend of Zelda. Nintendo of Europe will announce the launch date of the Four Swords game this year, which we have shown at ECTS and E3. The development of the new Wind Waker is under way and we would like to discuss the details in 2004 to. quoteNews: Zelda Four Swords - Single Player! By Tim - Feb 8th 2004 16:07 ------------------------------------------------ We bring you new details about the upcoming The Legend of Zelda Four Swords Plus for the GameCube. Head inside for the news… Cube-Europe has learned that the final version of The Legend of Zelda Four Swords Plus for the GameCube will feature an extensive single-player mode. Originally, the game would just be a multi-player game, but recently Nintendo decided to include a single-player mode.
Details on the single-player mode are still scarce. However, we can inform you that the player will have control over four Links at the same time. They will all be controlled at the same time, and the player will be able to position and control the Links in several different line-ups. For example, you can have them walk in a triangle, square, or circle-shaped position. This allows you to adapt the line-up where needed strategically.
Also, when playing the game in the single-player mode you do not need to own a GBA. Areas that normally would be displayted on the GBA screen can also be shown on the main screen.
Finally, we have been told that The Legend of Zelda Four Swords Plus has been improved graphically. Expect it to look even better than the version showcased at the E3 and ECTS.
Expect more on this title at Cube-Europe as the release draws nearer! All news taken from cube-europe.com

Nintendo's Plan: Stick with Gamecube
|
quote 1up
Nintendo's plan to debut the market's first new next-generation home game console may have fallen by the wayside, according to a pair of new analyses by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. While last year's E3 saw Nintendo of America representatives promise that the GameCube's successor would beat Microsoft and Sony's next machines to market, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that Nintendo's current plan is to focus on refining its software development and broadening the variety of games available for the GameCube, while developing a new console to debut in "two or three years." "There is no way we are going to win competing in the same arena as electronics and computer makers," a senior Nintendo official said to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. "Our best option is to build on our software development abilities."
The recently-announced Nintendo DS handheld is an example of this strategy. Its processing power isn't intended to match that of Sony's upcoming PSP -- rather, its unusual capabilities are meant to enable new, unique game designs.
Meanwhile, Nintendo evidently plans to release new peripherals for the GameCube to expand its capabilities. As yet unrevealed, but due for release some time in 2005, the coming wave of GameCube peripherals is meant to enable new kinds of gameplay, like those envisioned for the DS, rather than upgrade the console's technical performance. The Nihon Keizai Shimbun's report mentions "connections with handheld devices" as a priority, suggesting that the "connectivity" phenomenon is with us for the long haul.
Commenting on the viability of Nintendo's existing hardware, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata recently noted that "customers are fully satisfied with the performance of the current model." He's referring, of course, to its technical performance -- its performance in the marketplace, of course, has been less than satisfactory to some observers, but Nintendo hopes to remedy that with its redoubled software effort.
While the GameCube's position at or near the back of the current console race has been a source of considerable criticism of the console, it's worthwhile to note that Nintendo's financial sailing has been relatively smooth over the past two years. The fluctuating foreign exchange (particularly declines in the value of the U.S. dollar) has been a bigger threat to its balance sheet than low GameCube sales.
While Sony and Microsoft bear down for the massive expenditures involved in launching new consoles -- Sony's next PlayStation is believed to be on the way in 2006, while recent reports say Microsoft plans to launch its next Xbox as early as the fall of 2005 -- Nintendo's plan seems to be to earn as much as it can from its existing hardware. The spike in North American GameCube sales after its drop to a $99 price point, combined with example of longevity set by Sony's inexpensive PS one console, suggests that such a strategy, while conservative, could work in the long run.
Nintendo of America representatives today scrambled to deny that the company had any plans other than to launch its next console alongside its competitors. Nintendo's Japanese headquarters has yet to respond to the story, but we'll update if any such statement arrives. { Source} Waoh, I really hope this is good.

More Killer7 Info!
|
quoteNews: New Killer7 Details By Ash - Feb 13th 2004 21:39
------------
Some more details about Killer7 have been leaked. Find out about the story and gameplay inside!
In the game Killer7 you play as sixty-year old Harman Smith, the best hitman in the world. You have just been hired by the USA to Kun Lan, a terrorist who has released the Heaven Smile upon the world. Harman has seven different personalities that you take control of during the game, making a whole new playing experience.
The game will span six scenarios, taking up two hours each and containing real time cut scenes. Each personality will contain unique special abilities and they can be changed by changing the channels on the television.
Rather than moving around a 3D world you move on a linear path but can choose routes to take and go back to past actions.
While travelling around you will encounter Heaven Smiles, who must be scanned to be seen. Once scanned you zoom in with the left analogue stick. Each Heaven Smile has a weak spot which contains atoms pouring out of it. Hitting this guarantees a one hit kill.
The seven personalities can be found below.
1. Garcian Smith age 33: Gifted with clairvoyance. Has power to see through enemies weak spots and their habits. He is not used in battle often due to his weak weapon. He is primarily used to resurrect fallen characters. Weapon = Silenced Handgun.
2. Dan Smith age 33: Can change bullet projections with his mind. He only trust Garcian. He is evil and if given the opportunity, he would kill Harman Smith. Trained killer that has a hidden power no one knows, even Harman. Weapon = Modified Colt Python.
3. Mask De Smith age 38: Uses a lucha mask to hide his identity and his horrible skin burns. Uses grenade launchers to blast open certain doors. Weapon = Dual Grenade Launchers
4. Coyote Smith age 28: Can move through physical matter. Is incredibly violent and doesn't get along with anyone. Weapon = Modified Enfield.
5. Kevin Smith age 30: Is Ultra sensitive to light. Due to this he sticks to shadows and specializes in stealth kills. He is the only one to not use a handgun. Has infrared vision. Weapon = throwing knives
6. Kaede Smith age 20: Only female member. Is in love with both Coyote and Dan. Has a scope on her weapon and is able to kill from long range. Has a very slow reload time. Weapon = AMT Hardballer
7. Con Smith age 14!!!!: Blind since birth. Uses hearing to find his way. Has speed and ability to fire two firearms. Weapon = Dual Automatics
Source: cube-europe.com
What's with the fourteen year old? Anyways, I don't like the idea of linear play, but hell, Viewtiful Joe was awesome, and from Capcom I expect even more with this game.

Midway drops Cube, Team 17 support questionable
|
quoteNews: Mortal Kombat Deception Not Cubed By Tim - Feb 26th 2004 22:50 -------------------------------------------------- Not for the GameCube at least... Midway Games has announced that the online capabilities for Mortal Kombat Deception will be only for the Playstation 2 and Xbox consoles. The Gamecube version will not be playable online. The decision was made because of the system's lack of an official network service or network device.
Suprisingly, Midway could not even 100 percent confirm whether the next installment of the Mortal Kombat series will even be on the Gamecube system. The company has decided to make Gamecube titles on a case per case basis in the future. Gamecube is currently making only a small percentage of sales for the company.
We will bring you more news on this title as it breaks.
Update
Today the unfortunate news has reached us that Midway will not be releasing a GameCube version of Mortal Kombat Deception at all. The company also announced it is not planning in releasing any titles for the GameCube in the future.
quoteNews: Team 17 Worm Their Way Out By Ash - Feb 26th 2004 23:04 -------------------------------------------------
Team 17 have decided to stop developing for the GameCube!
Team 17, the company behind the popular Worms series, have decided to stop developing for the Nintendo GameCube.
The Creative/Studio Director posted the announcement on the official Team 17 forum. The full post can be found below.
There's no discrimination, just that there isn't too much retail backing, which is what makes publishers nervous, stops them making agreements to develop GC games etc. I'm certain that W3d is our last GC game since the publishers aren't interested in a cube version of the other game we have in development.
Update: Team 17 clarifies its stance on Nintendo's console. Team 17 has updated its forum with a calirification on its stance on Nintendo's console. It appears that the GameCube hasn't been ruled out completely after all. This is what the company had to say:
Frustratingly enough, it appears that this thread has been picked up and is being used on a number of games news sites - which does make me wonder if I should be even saying something on our own forum - which is a bit scarey... anyway I feel the record needs to be put straight.
To clarify our position, since my comments are being used in a number of different contexts;
1. We haven't abandoned Gamecube Development or made any strategic decision to cease Gamecube development.
2. Since our next project has not been requested on the GC platform (by our publishing partners on both sides of the Atlantic) I only assume it's our last given the time-lines associated with modern day development and the trends being demonstrated by publisher request.
3. Should a publisher approach us with a view to developing a GC title then of course we would give it absolute consideration, as we would with any title.
4. Development platforms are largely dictated by one of three things;
[1] The Publisher [2] Retail Chains (generally lower hardware/games sales for a format) [3] 1st Party deals (i.e. if Nintendo asked us to develop a game for GC)
You'll note that with the exception of the PC format, which is open to anyone, you'll not see the developer being involved with those decisions. We are a developer!
Since this thread has been picked up and linked, I'd like to take the opportunity to reiterate that any views expressed in this (or any other) thread are my own and not those of my employer and certainly not of our 3rd party publishing partners.
There you have it. Anything can still happen. Let's hope that the publisher of Team 17's secret title will still decide to release it for the Nintendo GameCube. Both from Cube-Europe.com

Here's some happy news for Nintendo!
quote IGN Cube
March 01, 2004 - Poor sales of the GameCube forced Nintendo to stop production of its console last summer. Since Nintendo continued to lose market share to Sony and Microsoft and support from several third party developers, the wisest move was to halt production until stock was cleared out. Now, the tides have reversed. While IGNcube has received several letters from readers stating that retail outlets across the country have run out of GameCubes, it wasn't until today that Nintendo finally commented on the situation. Apparently, GameCube's have been flying off shelves faster than they can be restocked -- thanks primarily to Nintendo's September price cut that lowered the price from $149 to $99.
"Store shelves are just running very dry. I'd say about 50 percent of our stores are out," remarked Nintendo's spokesperson Perrin Kaplan, "We're getting as much inventory as we can from other territories and making sure that Japan has production ramped at maximum to feed the need."
This is good news for Nintendo, which has lost a lot of ground in this year's console wars. Stay tuned to IGNcube for more GameCube-centric news.
