Played Silent Hill (1st one) back in the days ..
Got a PC recently - Is it worth buying ? or should I get the PS2 version ? (read the other thread about graphics cards).


PC Spec ..
1.4 Ghz cpu
512 Ram
60 gig hd
geforce 4 graphics card.

I have the pc version, Windows ME and a GF4 ti4200 and the game works perfectly in the standard settings. The only problems are:
1. with a higher resolutions, the sound could get unsynchronized in the cutscenes (Mentioned in the readme file, aparently you dont have this problem with Win XP).
2. The controls could be frustrating for some people.
Personally i like the sharpness of the graphics (The tv scalating a 320 x 200 window cant compete against a large size monitor with a powerful videocard) and the possibility of saving anywhere and anytime (You have quicksave and even can save manually). If you dont want any gliches or dont like the keyboard controls try the console version. Otherwise...

Presonaly I think the PS2 version in both ways not as good, and a little bit better. Why not? Becuase you cant just save anywhere which is so awesome! But once in a while, but not often you well see some glitchy stuff like when Heather really meats the Closer for the first time you see the arms go through its own body making it look a little more like a hollow mesh...Which is exactly what it is, but more convincing. I personaly reckomend you get the pc version. Why? Hell being able to save anywhere is just enouph for me, and the fact that you wont have to replace your computer like I would have to replace my old PS2! I'm selling my piece of shit PS2 for money now that it no longer works. I hate those damn bastards who made the system! Long live X Box! Game Cube is ok, but more for little kids so yeah...

Sorry for double posting, but I change my mind the graphics are not as good as PS2's... The blood is bad,a nd worse of all the bleeding walls look like shit compared to the PS2's. Get the ps2 version if you have enouph money to get it, and for the graphics, and for some reason on the pc version you cant aim down! Good thing about the pc version is its only 10 bucks. By now though the ps2 version isnt all that expensive anymore.

Frankly, if the graphics aren't as good or considerably better SH3 than in a PS2, you have a junk comp with slow CPU, not enough ram and an old under 32 meg graphics card with outdated drivers.
My daughters P3 850 Mghz CPU with 512 megs of SDram and the old GFTI4400 is faster and twice as clear as her boyfriends PS2 with the same game. I have SH3 for the PC, and the BF has both. PC no contest.
If you aren't used to PC gaming, it will take some time to acclimate to the keyboard. I've been playing PC games since late last year, Ghost Recon, Myst and SH3. I also have an XBox, my X produces better graphics than a PS2 for the same game. Popular Mechanics did a test on the 3 major platforms a tad over a year ago, even the Cube beat out the PS2 on game play and graphics. The only thing PS2 has going for it is all the PS1 games that you can play on it. and that it has more new games than either of the other two

Get the PS2 version if you want the best Silent Hill version of any of the SH games. Consoles are much much more smooth than a comp is for this type of game. This game extremely stretches the limits. Breaks them even.

Get the PC version if you have a game pad for your PC. I've got one and it is really comfortable playing this game. I don't know why everyone is compaining about the controls on this game. Plus the PC version had awesome graphics considering you have a good PC. I just got the game two days ago. I'm up to the third level and I'm sure as hell enjoying it.

I think it so, buy the PC version, it's better
