I wouldn't say that to be honest. Vice City had the one of the best atmospheres and gameplay of all the Grand Theft Auto games. Vice City Stories got boring quick.

Vice City was my favorite GTA game. It was the creative and artistic masterpiece in the GTA series. The setting, storyline, characters, and mission variety are all very solid. In addition, the game does an excellent job in immersing the player into 80's culture. The cars, radio station, and character personalities are spot on.

San Andreas was also excellent but the storyline completely falls apart half way through the game. I absolutely loved the diversity, and incredible freedom to explore the huge envirnoment but the missions don't really tie together well. It didn't seem like Rockstar could figure out how to tie the missions into the massive envirnoment. I'm really not sure how they could have accomplished this, but there is no question that the story completely fell apart by the time it progresses to the dessert.

GTA III WAS an excellent game for it's time. It's difficult to compare III to SA because had 5 years to improve upon the original format. Relatively speaking, III is still better than IV.

GTA IV is the worst game I've played in a while. I still can't understand why Rockstar thought it was a good idea to change SA's winning formula. IV downgraded in map size, mission variety, vehicles, enterable buildings, etc, etc. Rockstar claims that this was in exchange for an incredibly detailed envirnoment and better graphics. The graphics are dramatically improved, but I don't see detail. There are fewer storyline missions and way fewer rewards and side missions.

I don't care about hanging out with friends, playing pool, etc. I want to be able to explore a huge map and find plenty of rewards. Rockstar certainly has lost its way.

I agree 100%, but I still can't wait to play GTA:IV.

Don't hold your breathe in anticipation. The game starts off with a huge WHIMPER, and doesn't improve. It's difficult to explain, but there is actually negative incentive to veer off of the storyline. If you attempt to explore the city, your friends will start calling you to hang out. It's the most unexpected feature in a GTA game. You literally get penalized for not sticking to the script.

Even if you turn your phone off, you will be disappointed to see that there really isn't anything to see or do in the city. There are a few stunt jumps and pigeons, but they are so incredibly tedious to find that it's not fun at all. I found 20 pigeons that were blatantly easy to find, and spend a few solid hours looking for rewards and came across another 30. Apparently the rewards for finding all 200 are really pathetic also.

Since you are encouraged to do only storyline and play dates with friends, you'd think that that would actually be fun. WRONG AGAIN! The storyline missions are the most thoughtless missions you can imagine. Each mission includes either driving somewhere and killing somebody, or, stealing somebody car or getting into a chase.

There isn't much you can buy, all of the safehouses, weapon stores, and mission are located so far apart that you'll wind up taking a taxi all over the city. This cycle of completing the exact same "drive here, shoot him, reload at ammo store" becomes so repetitive that you'll soon learn that driving anywhere is a complete waste of time. By the end of the game, I didn't even know what island I was on when completing missions. I'd take a taxi there, and a taxi to the next ammo store or checkpoint. It's so mindlessly stupid and boring that I'm amazed I actually completed the storyline. It literally took me 6 months to complete the storyline because I couldn't handle playing for more than 30 minutes at a whack.

You should E-mail this post to R* and tell them to get back to making good games like the GTA 3 series

I'm actually considering emailing Dan Houser, or whoever the current CEO is. There are hundreds of negative gamer reviews floating around the net that I want to bring to his attention.

I doubt we'll see another GTA disc anytime soon given the huge investment in IV's downloadable content. Rockstar and Microsoft are going to suck every penny out of IV. In addition, given the enormous budget required to make a new game, it must be very difficult now to get funding to take on a project that big. Video game sales are way down this year and nobody is willing to lend for risky propositions.

Yep, but by the time the world economy improves, GTA IV will be old, so I'd expect GTA V to be out at... lets say... 2011 or 12.

Okay Actully I like San Andreas the best.
