KHI was about Sora's journey to find Kairi.
KHII was about Sora's journey to find Riku.

Of course there wasn't going to be much interation between Sora and Kairi in KHII - Kairi was on Destiny Islands. Sora wasn't.

I only got the impression that Sora and Kairi have an innocent teenage crush on each other. But nothing more. I don't think they're going to start kissing any time soon. They're too "innocent" for that. ^^
