It's almost time for a new Dance Dance Revolution game to arrive in the United States, so according to the curious way in which Konami's development cycles have synched up, a new one has been announced in Japan as well. Dance Dance Revolution Extreme, the home version of the latest arcade entry in Konami TYO's dance action series, is due for release on PS2 in Japan October 9.
Extreme, the eighth game in the series if you're counting, is to include more than 100 total songs, as well as a new Challenge gameplay mode. Challenge exceeds even the difficulty of the Nonstop mode in DDRMAX2, and is only unlockable through success in Nonstop mode. It looks as if Konami will also revive the Oni mode, to present an utterly preposterous level of difficulty to a talented few. On the other hand, Extreme also adds a new difficulty level on the low end, a Beginner mode for players who can't handle the Light level.
